If someone has the time....

Im trying to buy a second computer for recording. Can somebody have a looksie at these and tell me if any of them seem to be a good deal? Im also interested to know if they'll be powerful enough for what i want to do. Im probably going to run a 1010LT and a cheap mixer to it. Ill only be using it for recording, no internet or games or anything else. The most amount of tracks ill use in a recording would probably be no more than 10, with maybe a vst or two. Oh, and the software ill be using is Kristal, but i might get Cubase or something else later. Anyway, here here they are...

Thanks for the help

I can only speak for the Dell. That looks to be very similar to mine. I run the 1010lt on it and it runs brilliantly.

Thanks for going for the most expensive one :p

So do you think it might be TOO cheap? I tried to see what it might be missing that they're not mentioning, but it looks like its just the monitor that ill need. Can you see anything else?

Wow, them's cheap!

My PC cost £849 + £300 for the monitors. Then I had software to get on top of that...

...Still, it's all paid for and workin' well!

Won't have to go through all that computer-buying-setting-up crap again for another few years....

A few months you mean :(

Well those PC"s are Pretty expensive for what they are....

I just Bought a "NEW" p-4 2.6ghz with 512mb DDR and 60GB HD and CD-RW/DVD Rom for $180 US on E-Bay......

You should be able to Record multiple Tracks on anything faster than 1.5ghz with 512mb Ram but I would go for something faster Like at least 2.5ghz which you should be able to Find for under $300 AU if you Look......

cheers

I place a whole lot of Dell with my clients.

Reasons are reliability, ease of support, price.

Thumbs down on all the above except the Dell.
I find the HP unreliable, over priced, and usually a nightmare to support. HP bought Compaq, so birds of a feather...

My latest IBM adventure was a new Thinkpad... huge disappointment (and me, an IBM engineer for 25 years). Their system restore is ABSOLUTELY lame. Takes hours to complete and does it all with DOS batch commands. Very error prone. Some things never change at IBM... a pity.

If you buy a new Dell, be *SURE* to spend the extra $10 and buy the restore media. In plain English, this is the Windows XP installation CD. You will need it.

When you get your new Dell, save a GHOST image of the entire disk and burn it to DVD. The image contains your Diag and Restore partitions, serial number, WinXP license, etc, etc. If you lose a disk, this is GONE unless you have a disk image saved.

After saving your image, format the C: partition and wipe the disk clean, and reinstall WinXP fresh. This is the only way to get rid of the ton of bundled junk that comes on every commerical machine. I just did this with my brand new Inspiron 6400 laptop. It makes a HUGE improvement in performance.

You will have to download all the system drivers for your new Dell before you wipe it clean. Use the Service Tag number on the Dell support site. Piece of cake. After the OS is installed, you will have to install ALL the downloaded drivers. You will then have a virgin, unpolluted machine.
