I have an older mackie mixer and am currently looking for a new soundcard.

6 pres on the mackie - hoping for at least 2 additional pres with the new card,
but say I buy a MOTU - would it be a bad thing at all to throw a signal from the mackie pre into the motu pre just to get it onto my pc?

why would I do that is beside the point. it's a question. maybe a stupid one.

is it better to avoid the pres and go with 1/4" ins? I'm guessing yes?

.........

so I've heard enough about the presonus, not going for it.

I'm stuck between the echo audiofire, the motu 8pre, or hell maybe I should bite my finger and go with the RME fireface 4.

I make noisy trash music anyways, not sure how much I care or how much I would notice... but for the long term and the investment.

Just being general here- if you can avoid extra stages, fine. If 'pre's circuit also doubles as a 1/4" line input (Mackie's 1/4" 'ins do this for example) in the scale of importance, it's not a big factor.
