if i get a mixer do i need any other specific equipment....

obviously other than a mic?

i got cool edit 2.1 thought i'd get a mixer i know what a mixer is somewhat but still findin out new things about it as i look around so could some one answer my question and drop a lil explanation on what a mixer is?
 
you will need a mixer like a yamaha mg series.
i'm assuming your mic is decent quality and is 3 pin xlr. what brand is the mic ? also i would suggest a pretty powerfull pc for cool with lots of memory. preferably 512 ram . whats your pc ? do you have fast hard drives ?
how many tracks max do you want in a song ?
do you have a decent sound card ? what is it ?

pstew. you really need to find out some details on your pc .
so people can answer questions. if your using a built into the pc sound card. these can sometimes cause noise and latency problems, and give you
more than a few recording headaches. peace.
