I'm hanging foam in my apartment but doing it in a way that I can remove it later. I thought about using several different types of materials but I want to do it in the cheapest way possible.

If I put the tak on the foam and then put the foam on some posterboard is the tak gonna bleed through the poster board and bond the posterboard to the wall also?

I cant imagine that Auralex Foam Tak is much different than anything 3M makes. However, it may be different to avoid deteriorating that foam or whatever. But if it is anything like the various 3M spray adhesives Ive used in the past it shouldn't bond the poster board to the wall unless you were to coat the board to the point where it saturates the paper. Personally, Im going to say that youre safe. Best to try it in an inconspicuous place though just to be safe. Like maybe on the wall behind where you put a dresser or something. If it does stick and IF it removes any paint I wouldn't be too concerned. Most apartment complexes paint between renters.

Thanks APL. Yeah I've read a ton of the threads about this stuff and seen everyone talking about the 703s. At some point when I'm in a house I'll probably attempt something more aggressive or daring than the Auralex...

But while I'm in an apartment and on a semi limited budget this is the best I can do.

Plus I got Guitar Center to throw in this Auralex for free, so I'm free to screw up royally with this stuff first!

A 703 24" x 48" panel is as portable as anything from Auralex, and cheaper to boot, except for the GC freebie deal.

APL

do those panels need to be cased in a frame of some sort?

I looks like I can just egt the material, and wrap in the covering of my choice and hang it. Correct?

Looking around my aparment last night night I Decided that if thats the case then I might do that. If I got good covering then it would also just look like some unique decorating or some modern art or something.

What's egt?

Yeah, a frame is nice because the corners and edges tend to get bumped. Someone demonstrated framing using drywall corner angle material and rivets, very light and durable, then wrap in fabric and hang.

egt is my crappy typing symbol for the word "get". sorry about that.

Cool. Maybe I will buy some of the 703 and then ask someone at Home Depot what they recommend for a light weight durable framing options.

What would you recommend for covering the 703?

I also think I recall reading that this is the same "rigid fiberglass" the peopl ekeep discussing. Why is it referred to as that? it doesn't look very "rigid" at all. Looks more like that brittle foam particle board stuff.

If I were building them I'd probably just butt-joint one-by-two or -four together. The fabric should be open enough that you can easily breathe through it. It's more rigid than pink, but not as rigid as styrofoam.
