Gotta go for jazz here, for the same reason that I would pick the potato if I could only eat one food: it can be prepared so many ways.

Ya got yer traditional Joe Pass style
Ya got yer Tal Farlow bebop
Ya got yer Al Di Meola/ Pat Metheny/ Jaco '70's fusion jazz
Etc...

Of course, "rock" is pretty broad too.

The one I would definitely NOT choose would be blues. The IV V I would get pretty old after about a day.

solo acoustic fingerstyle... between all of the tunings, there is no limit to the polyphony possible for a solo player.

Blues is all that I ever play. Sometimes I'll jam with someone and we'll play R&R or Funk or whatever, but I'm always playing blues over it.

Well, that was stupid: I tried to vote and the bbs gave me a message saying my session wouldn't allow it.

The answer for me is metal. There is much more variety in this type of music than people give it credit. You can keep it simple, complex, fast, slow, funky, add rap or drop punk in the middle of it. Still bored? Pull in some fusion or classical. You can be a brilliant technical player or just know how to move your index finger along the drop tunings. Doesn't matter. Hell you can even pull a Paw and slam a little country into the mix.

I like to play both kinds..

Country and Western! (from the Blues Brother movie)

Actually Rythmn and Blues because it encompasses a larger range of music than just blues. 1,4,5 gets old after awhile.

yes, metal for me!

I didn't vote because there isn't an "other" option.

Nor is there a fusion or progressive rock option either.

It would be hard for me to choose between progressive rock and fusion.

I'd choose Jazz, but believe it or not, that would get boring for me after a while (to me Jazz is straight ahead bebop, not that CD109 crap repleat with DX7s and shit). I know that someone likened it to the potato for it's versatility, but Jazz does have rules (albiet far looser than say classical does), but there are things that you could do in a Jazz context that would be a departure to Jazz afficianados.

Fusion is infinatly more interesting to me than just Jazz (not that Jazz isn't one of the best forms of musical expression there is, but purists wouldn't allow for synths et al in Jazz). This let's you combine some of the best elements from Jazz and Rock giving you a larger playground than Jazz alone.

Progressive Rock is a lot like fusion in that there is an "anything goes" quality to it that lets the player color outside the lines (in more ways than just playing style). Recording technique, special effects, libreto, concept and instrumentality are all up for grabs with Prog Rock.

between the two it would be a tough choice.

Im going for Neoclassicalfusionblues as my main choice. But I didin't see in the Poll...Whats up with that?

It's not listed.....and I don't know if there's actually a simple word for it, but anyways, I would like to play *description* super techy math oriented yet catchy emotional rock. It would consist of wicked chords, odd time signatures, long techy fills, and rock out break downs. Yes. That is where I'm at.

Like my partner in crime Lopp, I'd choose metal or rock.

Way more versatile than funk, way less arrogant than jazz, way less constricted than classical, way more diverse than blues, and way BETTER than R&B!!!

Oops, I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes here... ;)
FYI, I play blues, funk, surf and occasionally jazz too.
These bands are all considered metal, yet they don't have much in common:
Iron Maiden
Slipknot
Dream Theatre
S.O.D.
Dokken
Mayhem
Opeth
Cromags
Limp Bizkit
Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force
Black Sabbath
My Dying Bride

Sure you have your differences in blues (SRV vs. Muddy Waters, Gary Moore vs. Robben Ford, etc.) but they share a lot more in common than most metal bands.
I think rock and metal also have the most sub-genres (guitarrock, alt.rock, sympho-rock, glamrock, noise-rock, classic rock, hardrock, speedmetal, heavy metal, deathmetal, blackmetal, doommetal, progressive metal, thrashmetal, Nu Metal (why lord, why? :( ) etc.)

This question is pretty hard. I like everything, not because I don't care but because I really like all styles of music. Playing it is a bit the same. Playing punk is really fun, playing metal is ballsy/powerful (oh **** yeah), Jazz is often dreamy and romantic or fun or whatever do with it. But I get a particular buzz everytime I go back to the classical guitar. The tone, oh god..! I especially like spanish/latin style. Anyway.. I'd play that if it were my only choice, I'd give up the electric guitars and stick to the classical. But I don't have to, mouahahaha!

Jazz..You got your Brazillan variety..Brazillan potatos hummmm..
Bebop, man when you just listen to it it takes you..
Rock is what I play mostly..But to listen give me Coltrane or Monk
its almost spiritual
