I offered ido1957 to remix his tune, and he was kind enough to FTP me the raw tracks. I got it going for him. This is the "without bass" version, and it's a low end drum machine and it was doen on analog tape, so there are some inherent limitations, but all things considered I think this is a clearer, more defined, and punchier mix.

Notes: Gerry had doubled the vocals to get a chorus effect, which in this case was unnecessary. I added a little chorus to it to keep to the spirit of the original. Everything else just got punched up and fattened and brightened.

This is "phase 1", I had to do this in headphones because the baby is sleeping. I plan to do more with it. Watch for phase 2....

Well, it does sound better than my old stuff, and actually better than some newer stuff I've done....

Sounds like you are coming along pretty well with this. Maybe, turn the vocs down a little, as they are way louder than the music. And the drum machine actually adds a cool sound to this. Mechanical, yet the programmed stuff fits.

Well, I can't vouch for balance until I can do the mix iun monitors instead of cans, but if you listen to the original; most of the issues it had were addressed.. :)

What a difference!

Phil, I just had a listen to the remix and I have to say I am blown away by the difference!

Quoting your post is the best way to describe it:

….this is a clearer, more defined, and punchier mix… punched up and
fattened and brightened…..

It has a better stereo spread and openness (is that the air everyone speaks about?) that was definitely lacking before.

This is a great lesson on how things can sound when you know what to do.

Thanks for doing such a great job…..

Gerry

Your welcome... I was just setting you up for the real fun in the other thread. I hope you like it... :)

The singings very good, sort of ZZ top-ish, the snare and kick could do with being a bit louder. IMO.
