Sorry fellas im still trying to learn the tricks of the trade here. My new Cubase came with this virtual instrument called Halion. My question is. im doing alot of acoustic work and would like some string section symphony type sounds in the background of my acoustic guitar. Do i need to have a midi keyboard hooked up to use a drum machine or virtual instrument or can i just use my computer mouse and keyboard because if so i need to buy a midi keyboard to run through my interface. thanks.....

You can just use the keyboard and mouse to drag and drop notes onto the sequencer, but to be honest that sucks major balls and i really wouldn't do it.

Just buy a cheap MIDI keyboard, they cost nothing and will make the whole process so much better.

I would also recommend getting a midi keyboard. When my system was new, I couldn't afford to purchase everything at once and so I made do with using the editing pages of the software I had to control the virtual instruments.

I came across some quite interesting results, some of which were great, but after I purchased a midi-controller keyboard, things truly opened up - I couldn't go back!

In the UK, you can pick up a midi controller keyboard from about £35 upwards. Surely there's something within your budget to justify some budget for this?

Good Luck:)
