Im building a diy electronic drumset and i was wondering if this idea for a drum would work, or would i need a cone or something?

It will technically work but the feel of a real drum, you will not achieve. If you're going to go to that much trouble, just trigger-convert any el-cheapo acoustic drum with mesh pads and use the cones.

yea thats the thing, i dont own any cheap acoustic drums for this so im trying to come up with the best possible drum from what i have. Any suggestions?

the parts would probably cost more than a couple used pads would.

sorry, to hijack, but this is semi-related..

How would I go about taking a cheapo acoustic kit, and turning it into an electronic kit? I want something I could practice with whenever i wanted to. About how much would it cost/ level of difficulty? Thanks!

The best way to diy is a cheap kit with fiberglass screening (the one that resists to animals, the smaller one breaks easily) with a cone of a specific material (don't remember the name, do a search here: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/DIY-edrums/) you just put a 0,45$ piezo under it and you're done.

It's super quiet, but needs more adjustment and repair. I bought a roland e-cymbal, came to the conclusion it was not worth the 130$, it trigs bad (2 triggers inside, crosstalks like a bitch+ will only trig at a really small spot). Now I use toms as cymbals.

For the kick I used a remo pad fixed on my drum cage, best way to diy trigger, barely no repair needed, but costs more and really isn't quiet.

also have a look at http://www.edrum.info/ if you're good with electronics or have a good friend, great way to get 16 inputs or so

the edrum is actually available as a 22 input kit. i've been looking into it for quite some time for use triggering DFH2 on my pc when the real kit would be too loud.

oh I see he updated is trigger to midi module this year, if I remember right the hihat was 6 notes and now it's 8 notes too, I should probably get into it now and see if I can build this thing up
