Posted this song a couple yr's back. It had electric gtrs on it then though...was wondering what i could add/take away from it. I think the mix kinda stinks right now...to much "in yo face" maybe.

Anyway if you care to take a peep. It's called "Idaho"..Thanks.

good tune-sounds familiar but I can't put my finger on what it sounds like...the performances are good all around-nice pickin and good vocal performance as well. Are those midi drums? they sound pretty good-and sound like they were played by a real drummer. The mix sounds good to me too-acoustic tones are nice-how did you record them? Vocals sit nicely and you can hear every word...As far as production value/ what you might add...how bought a clean echoey slide part over the second part of the tune? I was hoping you'd do a david gilmourish electric solo-and maybe ride the electric out for the rest of the tune...but the acoustic solo worked pretty well and was well played. Some vocal layering wouldnt hurt either....just a few ideas(since you asked :) )Good tune though-enjoyed it.

Whoa...

Man, I'm so glad you posted this...This is just my kinda' thing. Sounds freaking GREAT over here, but my mixes "stink." I dig sparse instrumentation, and this sounds warm and real.

And out of E to boot...jamming on the acoustic this a.m. to this. You know, come to think of it...If this song needs anything, and I'm not saying it does, it's some ambient acoustic slide work...(hehehehee...hardwood floors rule). Oh yeah, and 40 backup vocalists...

Honestly, I love this as is.

Fuck, I wish I could get drums.

THANK YOU for lighting up this saturday a.m.
Chris

Idaho... potatos rule. Are you from Idaho? Which part?

nice job. I really liked the song and performance. what format did you record/mix? The cymbals were pretty sizzly. The drum fills got to be a bit much. Nice tuning on the toms though. Maybe bring up the solo a bit more.

2nd Review

Okay, I've listened to it about 50 times now, and I had to add...when you start singing "since she left, me alone... " the first time, the git fills on the right are slightly out of tune. Do you have the original tracks? Can you fix that?

Man, this is really cool.

bye

I really like your voice. A couple times, you go kinda country in the low register, which I think takes away from the more Black Crows rock thing. Also reminds me of, can't think of the name of the band, they do that Jupiter song that was just a big hit. Can't really comment on the mix, cuz I listened in lofi, if i get a chance, I'll download. (peoples files are getting too big for us losers on shit connections...)

Really great voice.

Stratomaster: Thanks, Great idea's man. That was an alesis D4 for the drums..yes it's a real drummer. I don't play slide, but that might be pretty intresting. The acoustic was recorded with an a/t 40/50 head high (while sitting) pointing down towards the fretboard. Yeah the David Gilmour leads might be a nice thing, I had a David Gilmer lead on it once and it didn't work out:D . Thank's for the kind words and all the idea's dude!

chrisharris: Thanks buddy! Yeah I love them a.m. jam sessions (only time i have any energy at this age:eek: ). I would love to have some kind of slide guitar on it, maybe some dobro. Yep hardwood floors would be great, these dirt floors get kind of cold...ya hear me?:D . Thanks ole boy!

JR#97: Thanks bro! "Are you from Idaho?" No, sometimes I wish! Born and raised in Mississippi. I record to adats, mix on a mackie 16vlz. Yeah the drum fills are way to busy i agree, but i can't play drums so there ya go..I'll bring up the solo a bit, and see how that blends. Thanks a million JR!!

chrissharris: You again? Lol, *50* times? Give me a fukin break dude:D . Hell i aint listened to it half that much haha! I did go back and listen, and your freakin right. The right gtr is off a bit, but i don't have the martin right now so it'll have to wait i guess. Hey I know what, let me borrow a cup of that "autotune", or better yet run the whole mp3 thru it:D . Haha, just yankin yer chain bro, it would really take a trained engineer like "macle" to really notice any autotune artifacts. My wife and i really enjoyed your last tune dude..you did really well. Thanks!

macle: Hey thanks, I appreciate you taking the time man. Black Crows...man if you knew how much i've heard that (and i really don't know why). The last band i was in i worked up a couple of their tunes just because of that. Know what you mean about the "shit connections" I'm lucky where I live we even got running water and lights lol! Thanks macle...

Very nice job! Good writing and excellent playing. I really like just the acoustic feel to this. I don't think it really needs anything ... well, maybe some harmonica or something like that might make it kind of cool.

The drums sounded a little bit low on my machine...

Overall a very good job! :)

Hahahaha!!! My wife asked me..is that guy sick or what? Yeah even my deaf ears could hear that. now get outta my damn thread already:D

hehehe... I deleted the post, David. Just wanted to make sure that you heard what a wizard I've become

I guess they are maybe the best known (these days) for doing that sort of country/rock/blues sound, or I suppose I should say re doing. You were probably doing it before they were. Or are influenced, maybe, by some of the same people. Anyway, keep on rockin'!

boydrj: Thanks for your input man. I think I will just leave it all acoustic for now. I know a guy around here that play's a pretty mean harmonica, and I may go that route. btw, the drums were kinda low for a good reason:) . Thanks!

Toki987: Thanks! Now check your p.m. box...again!:D

Very cool sir. I thought it had more of a Tom Petty flavor than Black Crows.

good tunes/decent mix.. nice acoustic soloing.. no major complaints.. :)

a lot different than 'anticipation.' I'm spinning that one right now..

Good toon... bass seems to be picking a fight with anything in it's way... guitars... voice... snare drum...

If you could get the bass guitar to behave, IMO this would tighten right up... The vox could stand to come up, in certain places, by a very little... 1db maybe...

Drums are interesting... toms are a touch loud, and the snare is a touch quiet... kick is just about right...

Cool arrangement... nothing to do there... some judicious EQ (taking some competition out of the bass) would make all the difference here... you're almost there....

man the recording itself sounds great. i agree with others GREAT VOCAL..man the guitar sounds you got are really smooth...nice job. i sorta hear tom petty too..i think its more the strumming vibe sorta like "last dance with mary jane"....now if someone told me i reminded them of tom petty.....well i would probably send that guy a check for oh i dunno......like 10.00...maybe?.....lol

Track Rat: Thanks for the listen. Tom Petty eh? Damn i'm hanging it up then:D . Thanks bro!

B. SABBATH: "no major complaints"...I'll take that!:D. Yeah it's all together diffrent from anticipation. That's really kool of you to be listening to it again! Thanks man!

participant: This is the only tune..i think, that someone else is playing bass on, and i didn't spend any time on tracking it..just plug and play. It's to damn busy for one thing, and pretty muddy to boot. Thanks for that, I think i'll re-track the bass. Drums...no can do right now:( . Thanks Chad!

Jamal Bucket-head::D okay i'm sending you and Track-Rat 10.00 each..don't spend it all in one place! Ha, Thanks for the listen bro!

man, I love this tune. some great picking and the vocals are super. keep it acoustic.
