IDA DSP releases 1994 Channel Drive.

A 90s console character with flexible saturation shaping.

IDA DSP introduces 1994 Channel Drive, its first audio plugin: an analogue-inspired channel strip combining the character of 1990s consoles with component-level modelling, a musical four-band EQ and flexible control over how the signal drives the saturation.

The preamp ranges from subtle harmonic thickening to pronounced overdrive. Modelled EQ op-amp saturation adds another layer of colour as signal levels increase, allowing the different stages to contribute to the overall character.

Shape what drives the saturation

A central feature is the three-band Emphasis EQ, that lets you influence which frequencies drive the saturation most strongly while compensating for the initial EQ curve.

For example, reducing low-frequency emphasis can stop a heavy kick or bass from dominating the saturation.
It offers a way to explore frequency-dependent drive behaviour without splitting the signal into separate processing bands.

Key features

  • Analogue-inspired preamp saturation with selectable input sensitivity.
  • Component-level virtual-analogue EQ modelling.
  • Four-band EQ with fixed low and high shelves and two sweepable mid bands, whose Q narrows as boost or cut increases.
  • Three-band Emphasis EQ for shaping the character of the saturation.
  • Modelled Sallen-Key high-pass and low-pass filters, routable before or after the drive stage.
  • Selectable IIR and FIR oversampling at 2×, 4× or 8×, plus an Off mode.
  • Input and output trims with RMS and peak metering, peak hold and click-to-reset readouts.
  • A/B comparison, preset management and factory presets.

Compatibility

  • macOS 12 Monterey or later: AU and VST3, with native Intel and Apple Silicon support.
  • Windows 10 version 1607 or later / Windows 11: 64-bit VST3.

A fully functional 14-day trial is available.
