If he didn't threaten to report me on ebay (which honestly they wouldnt of done shit but it made me stop what I was doing) if it wasnt for him id be reselling someone a mic worth over 300 bucks that i knew was not working up to the standards of my other mic of the same type. Lots of mics out there sound like shit. its why we sit here buying 50 mics. when we come across a used mic that sounds shittier than its supposed to sound we should do the right thing and throw it back in the seller's face. Now i don't know if some retarded hill billy screwed up that RE27 to sound like crap or if its just supposed to sound like crap in super good condition. but i am now paranoid about buying used mics. I'd like to thank him for helping me fix the re20 i also got because that thing would probably still be buzzing and id be selling two mics that i knew had issues to unsuspecting buyers just like they were sold to me. Do the right thing. Sell your old mics to newbs so they don't know its screwed up. J/k =)
 
Also, here is a test of my two mics. My re20 and re27 both with bass switches disabled. Do you think they are in good condition by how they sound? I think im gonig to get a sm7b or should i get a md421 for vocals?

I'm glad you were able to get rid of the buzzing at least; That's something.

The questionable re27 aside, your other RE mics sounded normal to me (although the current clip is not available).


If you're thinking about sm7b, take this on board.
I think most people would agree that the re20 is a cleaner crisper sounding mic than the 7b.

Unless you want something that's less hyped and fuller sounding (ie not as crisp), the sm7b probably isn't for you.

You obviously have a very specific sound that you want, but for me either the re27 or the re20 should be kept.
Sell or return the rest and be happy. :)

Listen, my voice is very different to yours, but I could do a shootout between re20/sm7b/md421 for you if you like.

My 421s are very old models, so they'll sound like a U rather than a II, IIRC.
 
from my own recording the re20 sounds like its airy and the re27 sounds like a fish tank lol. im a little not happy.



This video of the re27 came out better but i think i did a little eq and compression. im not sure why im not getting consistency. this is annoying.
 
I'm not just saying it, but that video sounds great to me.
It's very clear and detailed; That's the main thing, right?

There could certainly be more bass, but I think you tailor that for preference, don't you?

It doesn't wear on the ears or anything like that and it's plenty loud.

i didnt notice this until afteri kept switchnig back and forth between the re27 and re20. the re20 definitely sounds more accurate. the re27 has the same fail as the re320 where it sounds overdrived or something i compare it to being in a metal fish bowl thats the best way i can describe it. a metalic oval fish bowl overdrive bass sound. the re20 doesnt do that. the re20 does keep crisp highs though but not harsh. this makes me wanna get rid of the re27. i really wanted to like the re27. i compared it to the nd767a and thought the re27 gave more consistent clean results and a truer sound. but compared to the re20 im starting to see problems with the re27. i hope it's not causeo f the n/d magnets. maybe i really should get a md441 its condenser like but doesnt have those stupid magnets. i was also thinknig the md421 cause its crisp too and has a boost kind of like the boost on a sm7b right?
 
the 421 II is said to be 'crisper' than other 421s, and yes, the sm7b has a high freq boost.
I don't know that I'd put any of them in a category with the re27 though.

I thought you'd prefer the re27 because it's clearly brighter than the 20, but as I said ages ago, they're both (all) great; The final decision is just personal preference.
 
Now don't be hating on USED microphones ..... For out of the hundreds that I have purchased I only received two that weren't up to par and after notifying the sellers they gave me a BIG discount back into my paypal account.
 
Dissing used mics to Henry is like dissing chicken to the colonel!
 
Although no one puts addictive chemicals in your microphones to make you crave them fortnightly! :p
