I want to build a home recording studio Help please.

I am a college student that wants to transform his dorm into a recording studio. I play many instruments and compose for bands , but I would like to play with my songs and generate music with instruments I can't play. I would appreciate any suggestions on places and brands of electrics guitars, six stringed basses, electric drumsets, 88-keys keyboards and computer software and hardware necessary for a decent enssemble. I would appreaciate any direct recomendations or ideas of where to find the information. I compose jazz, flamenco, brazilian, tropical, hip-hop and classical music.

I recommend you post a thread in each category for the instruments. As far as software...too many to choose from, but the most used are Sonar, Soundforge, Cool Edit, Logic, Pro-tools.
Look into M-Audio Delta series cards and interfaces for a start on soundcards.
