Let me establish a few points up front...

(1) I "maybe" can compose "some" music... like, perhaps
(2) I absolutely cannot sing at all, LMAO
(3) Sadly, how else can anyone else hear the song to want to try it?
(4) Anyone think they would like to take a crack at an original?

If you want a part lengthened, maybe a soft guitar, no problem, if you got a voice...

...because I dont.

eh?

how bad is the song(writing), *horrible mixing and singing aside*

okay...

let ME get the ball rolling on criticism, LMAO, show you how a flame is done...

On Antares Auto Tune 3 ?? You can set it to "Cher Believe" if you want to... I had it set back some, but not too far, LMAO, you can hear the tuner SMAK! me in a few spots B-A-D-L-Y, hee hee...

At the end ? The Outro is in perfect vocalese with the descending lag form, I dont know WHAT or HOW that "CD skip" is and how in teh ^%$# this aaadventure got so out of time at the end, LMAO

but... they (whoever the &^%$ they are, LMAO) sat its not the audio quality, its the songwriting.

which you can of course feel free to flame right along with the mix quality, LMAO...

...

oh, good CHRIST this is horrible... LMAO

so, THATS what ha;pens when you get a bizz and start mixing, LMAO

*shudder*

okay, from now on I;[ll just make music and someone else can sing,LMAO

1 the production sucks
2 the singing sucks
3 the lyrics are virtually inaudible, so i can't make any comment on them

but

i like the song. i think it is interesting, unusual, and could turn out to be a magical piece with some work. The pentatonic stuff gives it an oriental feel, but there is a quirkiness there that gives it a flavour of its own. The piano has no sensitivity, so I guess these notes have been entered manually. Try a different voice for this, or, alternatively, get a proficient keyboard player to do it. The fiddle-type of sound plays an interesting melody line, but it needs to be more subtle. Search again for an alternative voice.

At the moment, there is not a lot of variety in the sonic landscape or the song dynamics, and the intrinsic interest of the unusualness of the piece is not enough to carry attention to the end. So you need to think about adding and subtracting other noises and sounds to create variety and interest.

You don't like your voice? Who can tell? It's mixed way back with too many effects. Bring it forward, dry it out and let's hear the words. I'm guessing your vocals would pass . . . no better, but no worse, than heaps of others.

I think there is great stuff buried in there, so continue to work with it please. I look forward to hearing its development.

I can't seem to download or play the file - very frustrating.... Can you upload to lightningmp3.com or Soundclick.com????

okay, thanks for the kind words and needed criticism(s).

I'm curious if I am making stuff the "right" way, if there is such a thing. If you hear the piano song by itself, there's an intro, a main body, and an outro.

its a contrapuntal setup. I think of the higher octave voice as the cantus firmus of the two. The intro has the cantus firmus "leading" the lower voice by half its time. The outro has the cantus firmus "lagging" by the same amount. I dont know if this is "proper", but... I preview leads and lags versions of the contrapuntal setup, to see if I get any "bonus melodies" this way (shhh... dont tell anyone, its my secret weapon, LMAO)

the "main body" is the normal system, IE, they are in time. 3 times thru, then that lifting part is the inversion where the cantus firmus and its under-melody switch places.

typically, i get my accompaniment by using snippets of the cantus firmus and finding instruments to voice them. bass lines, deep horns and the like I try to grab from the lower voiced melody.

Its interesting you said you'd like to hear different instruments voice this melody system... this particular counter melody system has spawned a number of trial pieces. I wanna remember its in C minor, and a trial piece in its IV or V key with piano and a horn backing came out sounding very "1920's" somehow. Like a day at the undeveloped beach in those old time swimsuits, *shrugs*

I took 2 or 3 whacks at a guitar song out of it, and one came out half decent. I added a lead by harmony that has nothing to actually do with the counter melody system.

If you wanted to hear this counter melody system voiced as guitars, I'll edit a link in here...
