I want it right the first time.......

Okay, these questions are aimed at avoiding "corrective surgery" at a later date.
First;......I need to stop sound transfering up thru the floor from our soon to be downstairs studio........it is 8'x2' timber beams with heavy chipboard flooring. My concern is that if I attach any form of lining to the underside of the beams wouldn't that just create more of a "sound-board" effect......ie;sound travelling thru the studio ceiling, the beams and then the upstairs flooring.
If I knew how to put diagrams here I would......lol.

Second;.....should a drum room be acoustically "dead" and how small can I get away with it being.

In anticipation.........

John thanx for that reply.......I understand the basics of the STC page so no probs there. I have a possible solution to insulating the ceiling/floor but would have to put it in diagram form to get your opinion. If it is feasible could you advise me of either how to put diagrams on this forum or of your email addy so I can communicate direct.

Did u have any thoughts on my question about drum rooms.

regards....C.O. N'cle. Aust.
