Can anyone tell me what the IDEAL computer setup would be for Cakewalk 9?

What brand, Dell?

What sound Card?

What mother board?

What Processor?

What Hard Drive and how many?

What should come preinstalled on the machine, nothing?, windows?

and most impotantly, what brand mouse would work best?

thanx to anyone with some expert advise. I'm trying to make a reliable setup for personal AND business use.

There is no such thing. Best bet is to get some lists of components from people that are running Cake and have no problems and feel like recommending things. But beware, there will be a lot of differences, a lot of good advice, maybe some bad advice, and sometimes statements from Person X will contradict those from Person Y.

I'm running Windows 98 SE, and for music software I have Cakewalk 9.03, Band In A Box 10, Acid Pro 2.0, CoolEdit 2000, Sound Forge XP 4.5...

I have all kinds of non-DAW stuff on this machine - it's the only PC we have at home. So I have Microsoft Office and a bunch of development tools for work, and graphics programs, and now video capturing and editing software... The prusits would wince at this, but so far it works pretty darn well.

one more thing

Alchuck has given you a pretty good idea on how to start.

The only thing I have to add is to install the least programs possible (only the ones you're goin to use).

That way you get less conflicts.
