I wanna listen!

"Something tells me SF Acid was involved here?"

Good call.

Did you recognize the bass line??
I liberated it from The Jimmy Castor Bunch. It's not a sample.
I played it slightly different from the original. I don't think there'd be any copyright infringement- not that I'd have to worry about it being heard by that many ears.

Thanks much for your input!

Heya Axe4Yahweh,

I haven't recieved the package yet, but knowing US customs, I may not see it for up to two months after it's been sent.

I'll check you out again on NWR if you remind me what shorturl you used for your solo projects, also let me know what tracks you'd like comments on, I've listened to quite a few that you've posted!. My very first post mentions IUMA as a site I do not visit... Mostly because of the whole sellout bit just like mp3.com, but for other reasons as well...

Myx,

I'm done listening for the night, people have gone to sleep here so I can't listen at the appropriate levels ;)

I'll get right on it tomorrow though!

Dim>

The snare sound tipped me off actually, one of the rythms you used I recognized...

Bass did sound a tiny bit familiar, didn't place it though!

How does it feel sitting at the helm of one of the worlds global jukeboxes? :)

Sometimes I feel like the captain of the titanic.... But then, I remember the indie movement can never, ever sink...

Sorry bout that Waldo. I didn't get past the "I'm Bored and I wanna listen" part. LOL I don't care too much for IUMA either to tell ya the truth. They have this freakin pop-up that comes on sometimes playin some 70's sounding Disco Crap that won't go away until ya close the site. Not to mention the omnipresent 5 CDs pop-up.

I hope ya get the package soon. Besides the P3 Slot 1 Processor and 64 megs of Ram that I found for ya, my dues and an lil extra for the cause is in there too. :)

Anyway, have a listen to either The LORD Is or A Whirlwind and let me know whacha think.

Thanks for all ya do for us Indies, Waldo!!!

Jesus H Crist WALDO!!!!!

Why did you have to pick that song?I F*ckin Hate that tune sooooo much.I'm squirming im my seat right now just thinking about it!!!13 Yr Itch was a goof.I wrote new words to an exisiting song and I just plain hate the g*ddamn thing!I have no luck.Thanx for the time and effort you rock anyway!!!Nowhere Forever...

You really are the Real W and not like that other one. Everypoint you made was valid except for maybe the "lyrically genius" bidness as I have to admit having lifted a few things from the US constitution, the pledge of alegiance, the Bible and Bob Marley....just a little help from my friends...¡OYE! Im gettin a brainstorm for a theme song/leitmotiv for ya...imagine these lyrics to that old toon Judy Garland sang;
"Nowhere is the real radio..."
thanks,
el jordo

Which song that Judy Garland sang? Lol, just watched one of her many musicals last night and heard her go through about 20 ;)

I'm downloading tracks now for the next batch of listens...

Myx62> "Livin in the Rain"

Vocal effect's a bit heavy, makes the mix sound murky. There's a big hole in the center spectrum of the overall mix. Voice could be forward of the effect, drop the vocal effect waaaay back.

Hihat sounds like it's a 2" alluminum pipe for a bit.

Is there even a bass guitar in here? Hidden!

W.

Axe4Yahweh> "A Whirlwind"

Ahh, blues... You always make it onto my little playlists with these numbers! lol

High end drops right off on the overall mix. Cymbals are nearly imperceptable. Am I hearing lo-fi/tape hiss? Could just be 60hz from gear/amps...

Mix needs to be brightened up a bit would be my biggest complaint, other than that, it's got a good feel to it for the genre!

W.

W.I.S.C> Sorry dude, lol, if you want me to hit another one, gimme the one you wanna listen! I pretty much just looked at titles and went 'okay, heard that before, heard that, hmm, that looks like an interesting title' then downloaded... I didn't really go through every song there!

LI_Slim> "Reincarnation"

Acoustic is a bit quiet, possibly compressed a bit much.

What the HELL was that at 2:19? Sounded like 'tough' had a bunch of layers added to it (like pre 1:00 had, only more intense). Might want to blend that in a bit more, if you keep it at all. Made me think it was a cough or a choke at first, lol

I'd bring the bass closer to the center.

The repeat at 4:05 sounds a bit too much like a skip, and could very well be a skip for all I know. Maybe a little blending there would help, or it's going to make a few people question the quality of your CD ;)

Vox I might eq. a tiny bit lower.

Catchy tune, gonna make a few people wonder exactly where your mind was at (like we don't know, lol).

W.

Just a question, heard some odd distortion in there (could just be my setup), but it almost sounded like you recorded some of this analog?

Waldo, thanks for a very helpful listen. I really appreciate it.

Recording was strictly digital. Vocal, guit, bass (amp) and conga all miced into Aardvark DP 24/96; not sure what you are referring to about distortion, although could be my (lack of) vocal technique overpowering mic at times.

I brought down the lead vocal (also turned up the vocal 'verb a pinch) and bass a bit (also moved the bass toward center a little) which of course brings out the acoustic better. Changes are subtle but I like them; remix is up at www.artistlaunch.com/LarryKolker . BTW, song is now #5 sitewide and #1 folk :)

I can't figure out what you mean by a skip at 4:05. "Tough" is indeed two (just two) layers. I liked the way the word was articulated from another take I didn't otherwise like, and when I dropped it in awkwardly I liked the effect so I intentionally left in the mistake. :D

Thanks again W

It's cool Waldo! :D Just look for my upcoming collaboration in the next day or two!Listen to the others at your leisure(is that spelled right?).Later!

thanx...

for the feedback! The mix was done before I received monitor speakers so I had to use the spiced of AIWAs that I had from my stereo system. Not much of an engineer but trying to understand some basics about mixing. Do you think that the synth units that have "built in" onboard mixers are sufficient for tracking sampled sounds? Basically is my sound module and Korg Trinity enough to get a good mix (pan, vol, fx, etc...) or should I dump all sounds into mixer mono and tweak from there?

Would it be asking too much to have you listen to another track other than Its Time so that I can compare and exploit my "mixing inconsistencies"?

Thanks in advance for all of your help. Fairly new to the forum and am curious to know what exactly is your musical expertise or field of specialty?

LI_Slim> I'll definately have another listen when I get the chance.

The distortion could possibly have been due to my machine (sound card gets distorted after about 20 minutes of listening) and may have thrown me for a loop.

The skip could also be, or a result of an mp3/download issue, but I'll compare notes against the new mix when I get a moment.

W.I.S.C> I'll keep my eyes open, probably won't get back to listening until the weekend again, but I'll try.

Depends entirely on the mixer and synth. But yes, I've seen a few that are pretty darn good.

For a live performance, I'm sure nobody would notice much of a difference. For recorded, the odd person may notice. I might do a digital record into a computer and do the final 'touch ups' there...

Would it be asking too much to have you listen to another track
Not at all, I'll be back at listening on the weekend most likely, but we'll see what's up.

what exactly is your musical expertise or field of specialty?
I'm nobody, and I know nothing ;)

W.

Thank you Waldo for the critical listen. I will up the bass and maybe take off some effect from the vocals. I think I need to stop monitoring my stuff with a sub.......
