I like cool edit but, there is no Sequencer, something I like to get more into.

Also, n-Track isn't really a sequencer either...I mean it has MIDI piano roll capabilities, but they are pretty weak. Many n-Track users use a combination of software to pull off projects that require multitrack and sequenced audio.

From what I've observed from the shareware, it's stable enough considering it's windows based and it is so cheap. Once it's going it seems to be great. I also think(I really don't know) that you get free upgrades which I think(I really don't know) that you don't with CEP.
Cakewalk is actually the only software I've used that I would trust with my MIDI. The older ones like Express Gold seem to work great for working with just MIDI and it is cheap if not free(if you can find it anywhere). Try and dig a copy up and try sequencing with that.

Hey,
One thing I've learned about computers/programs in general is if it ain't broke........etc..
I've got N-track 3.0 and once I got it working smoothly it's been fine. Of course I don't use midi and sequencing. I'm very reluctant now to download every upgrade that comes along with N-track. I'll wait till the improvements are substantial or till there is a feature I really need then I download the upgrade.
I do also advise others getting into computer recording to start with the cheaper stuff untill you know what you are doing and are sure of where you are going. That way your mistakes aren't so costly.
Hope that's a help to you. I couldn't vote in the poll because I'm not familiar with CEP or Cakewalk.

I'm using this thread for a little one on one. Thought it would be ok since it's a pretty old thread.
How is everything in Cowtown? Both my wife and I like FW and would pic it as a place to live besides here in the "live music capital of the world".
Questions:
I downloaded the "end it all 2" and love it except that I pressed the kill all button while ntrack was minimized. Since then whenever I record I get an error message saying something about "the midi controller device can't be opened". It pops up as I depress the record button. I am able to record ok but if I don't close the error window it minimizes as "metronome" and stacks up with each take. Do you have any ideas why this is happening?
Have you downloaded the new version of N-track? Like I stated in an earlier post, I'm still using 3.O because I'm finally nearing the end with four tunes I've been working on and can't afford any "monkey wrences" right now in my system.

Try reinstalling n-Track and see if that doesn't do it for you.I like it here in Cowtown.All our rain-water drains down to you guys in the hill country,so we have come through this recent mess damp but unbowed.I'm still on v3.0 because it works so well for me and I'm not really interested in being a beta tester and bug finder for all those intermediate versions.What to speak of the backward compatability issue you raise with older projects.I've tried demos and cracks of all the major software,but good old n-Track does it all for me.My current rig is j-station or audiobuddy to c-port to Anthlon 1700+ running n-Track v3 on w98se at 24 bit,44.1K.
