i think this is a simple question

hey, I use sonar 2. what I want to do is play a bassline using my keyboard (MIDI track) and then adjust the beat of the song to fit the clip i played. Looking through the manual i thought process-fit improvisation would do it but it didnt. I want the clip to stay the same and the beat to adjust to fit the clip.
right now the clip starts at 1:01:000 and ends at 2:03:881. I want it to start at 1:01:000 and end at 3:01:000 with the clip looping and beginning again. thanks.

That is a simple question for sure. I just dont know if it can be done as you describe it. I`ll try something and see if I find a way. When you say "beat of the song", are you talking about the tempo or a beat pattern you plan to play along with the bass track?

from what I see "fit to improv'" only applies to audio clips, not midi. maybe somebody here will have some more in depth knowledge on this.

I set the project tempo to 100, then i recorded a midi bass line at a really ridiculously slow tempo and tried all the options I could find and it would no read" the new tempo and adjust to it. I think audio is the ticket.

I don't think you can do it "with a click of a button", but a little math will help.

Set the marker at the end of the clip and read the time in seconds (asuming the clip starts at 1:00:000). Then take 600 and divide it by the time multiplied by four: bpm = 600/(time*4)

Or am I way off?

I dont know, but it will be an interesting experiment when I get back home this evening.

toki, thanks a lot for taking the time out to simulate my situation and look for a solution. So should I convert to audio and then use fit-improvisation? I tried that and nothing seemed to happen.

moskus, i tried using the equation. The clip is 3.27 seconds long. So I multiplied by 4 and divided from 600 and got 45.87 for the tempo. Putting this number in I got the clip ending at 1:03:888 so it didnt work.

I really expected this to be a simple question with a simple answer but i guess not.

well well

Looks like I am not the only one having a problem changing the
tempo of tracks in sonar eh

changing the tempo of tracks is easy, having the tempo of recorded material dictate the project tempo is quite an obstacle..in midi. Now with audio, one could extract a tempo from a track much easier I believe.

ok, after doing some reading, i learned how to kind of do it.
what you do is first record the clip that you want to dictate the project tempo on one MIDI track. You then record another MIDI track in which you only play one note on your keyboard at the beat. So if it is 4/4 you play your keyboard four times each measure. You then select that track (the second one), go to process- fit to improvisation, and then the other tracks in your project will adjust to whatever tempo you recorded on that second track.

exachery as I read it in the help section, as well and seems like quite a bit of work. I was thinking that maybe finding the tempo that I wanted to play the piece at, and the set up the project based on that tempo, would possibly be a lot easier, wouldnt it?
