euphoric trance is prolly the best description...took tonnes of sidechaining and EQ automation to get it all to fit but Im really happy with the end results..

comments and critiques on everything appreciated..

this one is dedicated to Jason (poetic intensity) i said id try another trance one..just took me a few months to do it mate :)

Now with new added video not ripped off the 1982 film Koyaanisqatsi, nope thats a complete coincidence :D

Dude.. Keith. Props, my man. The dedication was awesome. If I could hug ya and not seem gay, I would. ... okay, I probably still wouldn't. For all I know you're some crusty 70-year old lesbian who gets off posing as a 40 year old clown. :laughings:

Nah... Seriously, thanks, dude. Made my night. Listened to it twice. Once on my monitors, and once on my reference grado sr-225 cans.

So, I've gotta critique this as I would any of your other stuff. To start it off, for trance I dig, this was pretty busy, and the pads needed to be scooped in the mids. Sounded a bit too thick. It also needed an occasional tail-verbed snare on the 3-count, with some additional 16-count hats. Not through the whole thing, just on the tops of the climbs and apexes. Gotta get some silky female vocals sliding in and out, too. I like the chord progression, and the progression of the song itself is pretty nice. The harp-ish sound at the beginning was a bit too electro-sounding, too. Mmmm... The idea of a real acoustic harp at the beginning of this makes my mouth water. Also, I wonder what it'd sound like if it were slowed down about 5-8 bpm, too...

Sorry, I'm slammin' all this on ya, but I gotta be true to the forum, and man... I *love* me some good trance - and this one has loads of potential.

Thanks again, bro.

You da man, Keith. Keep it flowin'.

ell thats it..I quit

:laughings:

its a bit slamming isnt it? and at 140 its at least 5 too fast, well spotted...I love it though

Ill have a dig in the pads, theres a lot, ya big gay busturd :D

yeah, that'd suck. Please don't quit. (I know you were joking, but I love your stuff. Don't quit.) Did I mention that you shouldn't quit? Yeah - don't.

:laughings: You rock. Ya made me lawl.

Okay, okay... LOL'ing aside - I'm taking a very serious look at a Korg Radias Rack Synth as a tool for my foray into electronica, as well as for my clients. From the videos I've seen, it looks like an incredible synth / vocoder. Opinions?

thats a very nice piece of kit...ive been looking at Roland SH-01s, but thats very nice as well...youll destroy what sounds I can make with it even though its a modeler :drunk:

Great Stuff kcearl. You probably know I'm big on vocal and know squat about trance...

I kind of get that trance requires an "appagiated" sound, but without vox I really want a direct lead to hook into.

Way back I got my hands on a sampler and used "we are all individual" samples from Monty Python's "Life of Brian" over a dance track... and then the guy who says "I'm not" (the style at the time was probably “I – I – I... I’m not”).

Is there an online handbook somewhere that can explain the differences between all these sub-genres of techno music? Like, what the fuck is the difference between house, trance, dance, dub, D&B, etc? It literally all sounds the same to my untrained ear.

I don't know any genre specific things to look for, so it sounds pretty good to me. Nothing seems bad or out of place. It's got just enough bottom end and the highs aren't raking my ears. Good work.

yeah i think the idea is to take you to a euphoric state of mind though i believe the drugs play a large part in it lol :D

Thanks G, I made some drastic changes after PI heard it...another drunk thread..its coinciding me drinking with me finishing a track...I need to change that lol

Dunno about explaining differences...think of trance being prog rock and drum and bass being punk rock and you're part way there ;)

I started listening to this three hours ago. I just came to with drool on my chin. I guess this trance stuff really works.

Sounds really good to me, but I'm certainly no expert on this genre (or any other, for that matter). I love the way the snare kinda sounds like a heart beat.

lol....thanks man..I just hope a swathe of dead hookers dont show up...thats what happened last time I couldnt remember the previous three hours :D

i was a bit carried away last night...its not the best thing Ive done...its the second best trance thing Ive done.... out of two, lol ;)

Beautiful!
There is so much life in this, it's not just plastic synthy stuff. So 3-dimensional, I feel I could just dive into it. You really show your talent with stuff like this, Keith. When are you gonna have a whole album ready?:)

Thank Joe...really appreciated...Im starting to really enjoy mixing over everything else, the last few tracks have all been the best fun Ive had outside the bedroom, and both are on my own!

its a 30 track album so Ive only another 13 to go lol

at $4.99 @ walmart its gonna be an electro bargain!! :D :drunk:

Ha! I was going to write something very similar to Greg as I agree with him completely on this. You didn't really bite, but since you are by default the point person for electronic music on this forum, you're stuck with it.

To the average listener, there is a noticeable difference between punk and prog...yet I don't think there are discernable differences between most of the various electronic genres to even those who are musically inclined. I submit that electronic genres and sub-genres are for the most part contrived and arbitrary. So there. :p

Anyway, this sounds good to me Keith. Nothing jumps out as being out of place or anything and I think you've done another fine job production wise. This has a full, wide sound to it, and while I prefer some of your stuff that has more pronounced variation, there is some subtle stuff going on here that is pretty cool. :)

Holy COW. You ain't kidding! The new version isn't the same song at all. This thing rocks! Seriously... All flaws I mentioned are now gone (that "snare" you added couldn't have been more creative, nor perfect for this tune... Just - wow... good stuff), and you've added boatloads, too... Daaaang. Love it.

In other news, I just ordered my Korg Radias. I cannot wait. No doubt, I'll be asking you *all* sorts of questions about music creation in this genre. Gonna be a fun trip.

Rockin' song, my man. Ultra-kudos. Gonna be listening to this the rest of the day.
