I just got my Studio P TB1 today and I have a Eurorack U506 (still new in box w/receipt)...
I tried to upgrade to a better setup and won a Roland UA-100 on Ebay for $93

http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/SNAMM98/Roland/UA-100.html

I don't know if I am screwed or not yet. I saw an ART DPS II for $250 and I could probably get it for less, but now this is all I can afford. Thing is it (UA-100) uses Win 98 which I can get around but the latency issues may cripple me. I am not sure. Should I try to get out of it and hold on to the Eurorack. Which I have like 2 weeks to get a refund on.

plz don't flame me! I did research and I am looking to see if there are any better options out there for me.

If your asking if the TB1 will work with the UA-100 the answer is no.

This is incorrect. The TB1 will work with that box with an XLR to 1/4" cable. Other than that, it's not really clear what you are asking. Are you looking for a front end for a DAW? I'd take the Behringer back, sell the Roland and buy a Tascam US122. It's a great way to get into computer-based recording. The version of Cubasis that comes bundledwill be able to handle most of the basic audio processing you'd need.

Oops, I should have said the answer is... no, not without a different cable or adaptor... but without knowing if the UA-100 mic input jack is balanced or not it's hard to say how good of an idea this really is. Actually, if it's not balanced I don't think it's good... but it will work.

But...

Bottom line for me is Harvey has hard earned credibility. DJL has none. No one has any idea of what DJL has done. Not a clue. There's no web link, no posted work, no real name, nada, bupkus. DJL, you are just an opinionated asshole with no credibilty to back up anything you say. Your 3000+ posts of nonsense speak volumes about your "experience". Your lack of even basic conversational skills or the ability to form a coherent thought continue to amaze me. I have met some flaky bass players in my day, but you take the prize. Congratulations. And for God's sake, learn the difference between your and you're and their, there and they're. Repeat the 4th grade if necessary.

Oh, yeah, it's "damn" you moron. You can't even cuss right.
So don't expect too much.

Thanks for reposting that. I'm pretty proud of the writing.

I was trying not to bring a lot of extra baggage into this thread. If you want to play it that way, fine.

Les, disregard anything you hear from DJL. It will likely be wrong, made up, based on erroneous information or grudges, or just plain uninelligible. He's just a random fool.

I like it.. how do I make it so it's added to the bottom of all my post? Thanks

Please get a grip.

It is very tiring, seeing this in thread after thread.

That would be in the User CP, under Edit Profile.

Just make sure you credit me.

I forgot to add "Pinhead" to your list of qualifications.

Humm, for some reason I can't get it to work... I'll go try it again. Thanks and thank goodness it's Friday.

Do I need to turn any of this on to make it work...

HTML code is OFF
vB Code is OFF
code is OFF
Smilies are OFF

And if so, how?

Also I just recorded a song for you... but can't seem to upload it to our MP3 clinic... how do I do it?

You may need to enable VB code.

When you do that, the option to add your signature should appear in the new post page.

You have to link to your MP3 on another site like Nowhere Radio.

Under User CP, Edit Options, near the bottom of the page.

If you e-mail the MP3 to me, I will post it to my website so you can link to it. I give you my word I will not do anything to the file other than post it. PM me if you want to do this.

In a balanced XLR circuit, pin 1 is the reference "ground", while pin 2 carries a "positive" signal, and pin 3 carries a polarity reversed "negative" signal.

If you talk, or lightly blow into the mic, pin 2 will duplicate the signal with a plus voltage, while pin 3 will be the exact opposite.

Simple enough to tell with a milliamp meter or scope whether the signal "blows" (positive) or "sucks" (negative). If it "sucks", it means you have the polarity backwards, and you need to swap pins 2 and 3.

BTW, DJL, I think you have the polarity reversed on most of your posts.

Yeah you would, I mean after all the song is making fun of you... so you'd have to fuck it up.

I'll tell you what.... give me an hour and I will record a remake of a cover tune for you and mail you a CD-R of it and you can post it if you want, or not... PM me your snail mail address.

Also, you must wire the "opposite" pin to pin 1 or there will be no reference to ground for the posative signal.

Usually it is:

Pin 1 + 3 go to ground ("ring" on a TS 1/4" connector)
Pin 2 goes to +Hot ("tip" on a TS 1/4" connector)

This makes the microphone cable an "unbalanced" signal.
