I recorded a friend of mine. This is an original song of his.
I'm a drummer and specialise in drums as you can probably tell. :D
He asked me to record and mix this.
What do you guys think?

cheers

Hugo -

Very pretty song, and overall the recording sounds good to me. Part of the melody in the verse reminds me of "Under the Milky Way" by the Church, but that's fine since I like that song too!

The strummed rhythm guitar may be too loud, and too prominent throughout the song. It's the dominant element of the backing, and it becomes a little tiresome by the end. It's also not very distinct sonically from the picked part, although that's not necessarily a bad thing. I like the slide guitar, and the way the extra instrumentation join at the refrain.

I can't pretend to understand the lyrics - Portuguese? What's the song about?

Hi Jm!

Sorry for the very late reply! Thank you for taking the time to listen and comment.
Yes, it is Portuguese. The song is about being better late than never! :)

cheers

I really enjoyed listening to this. If you are happy with it, then I would be too.

But were I to mix this, I would probably be not quite so dry with the vocals, and like jm67 observed, maybe the strummed rhythm guitar could go down a bit. My preference though, would be to vary the strumming pattern so that you break up its relentlessness.

Hi there,
I'm glad this got bumped. I really like the sound of the vocals and guitars.
I think you've done a great job!

I wont pretend to understand the lyrics either, although I did a pretty extensive Portuguese audio editing job recently!
That was fun!

The strum pattern didn't bother me at all, but I'd probably make more of a feature out of the slide guitar during the vocal gaps.
That might help to maintain interest a bit.

Overall, lovely sound!
Thanks for sharing. :)
