I need your help to make this track even more awesome!

It's not far off actually, but the dynamics are not very exciting. I suggest you take everything off the master channel and send the raw mix to a mastering engineer, which would work wonders for you!

Sounded good to me.

My only nitpick was that some of the crash cymbals really jump out at you.

For an instrumental I agree with the comment about dynamics. I like the music, which reminded me to the music of "Ninja Gaiden" on the old 8-bit NES (yes, I consider video game music high art).

If you want lyrics you'll need to make it more pop-friendly. It didn't have a definite verse/chorus structure. Again, this may not be an issue if that's not what you're going for, but I think it would be hard to lay down lyrics on top of the song as it is currently structured.

Hope this helps,

David

I have never had anything profesionaly mastered. How much attention would a matering enginere give the song? How much time would be typical, per song? If I backed off most to the compressors and had it mastered, do you think I would be really impressed? Again, I have no idea .

Thanks for the feedback.

On the master channel, I have about 4db GR using a multiband comp. It's usualy hitting around where the bass, kick and snare peak at the same time.

It reminded you of Ninja Gaiden! Hahah that is classic. I enjoyed playing all 3 of them, I think!

I totaly understand about the definitive chorus. I think it would be hard to write lryics to this one, but on the other hand, If it was done carefully i think it would add to the supprise if the song. In my opinion the chorus would either be the F to Em heavier part or the bridgeish part where the drums break. Tho, that part only happens twice.

As soon as I can find someone to sing, I would probably restructure it with their input. but for now, its all about having fun!

Thanks for the reply

It depends on the engineer and how much you want them to do. Someone who really knows what to listen for in a mix, and how to get the best from it can master a track impressively fast. Generally, a mix engineer just mixes i.e. get the mix to sound right probably without
any compression on the master bus. Mastering engineers will take a mix and do the final stage of dynamic control to prevent all the life being squeezed out of a mix.

IMO multiband compressors have a lot to answer for, they are used too frequently to just get a track as loud as possible. They should be used carefully and much less strong than they have been.

I do think your mix is good, but the last mastering stage isn't really helping the dynamics here.

A little Police vibe from the early 80's going on here witht he reverb and echos - nice! :D:D:D:D

Nice Mix. I really like the bass tone.
The kick has too much high mids though. Bring th high mids down a bit and maybe also add a bit more low end beef to the kick also, although lowering the high mids might be enough to beef it up.

Good work.
