I Need Some Suggest. For A Great Mic!

Hi guys,

I need some advice on the best Mic to buy.

Here' my situation. I self produce music in my bedroom. My first project was done on a Tascam 4 track recorder but i'm going to buy a Roland VS-880EX this month to step up to digital recording. That should help, but I realize i need to get some other components. I'm getting a compressor and all that jazz... but i figure the Mic is very important too.

I have an audio technica High Energy mic right now. ATM61HE i believe. i got a killer deal on it so i couldn't pass it up. it does me alright... but i'm thinking that to really take a step up in recording vocals i need a good vocal condensor or something. if you want to hear what sound I get out of the mic i use right now visit my mp3.com site and take a listen to a few songs for vocal quality (or lack there of :) )

I need some advice on what your favorite mics are.. and any suggestions givin' what you hear on my recordings with my ATM61HE

any help would be appreciated! thanks

Tony

i'll give you a damn opinion!
i bought a pair of akg c1000's to do stereo pair into dat about 5 years ago.since then i've used them on everytning but maybe kick. and i've been nothing but happy. cool thing about them is you can use a 9-volt so you don't always need phantom.acoutic instruments, amps, and they sound great on vocals. i still use them to record a couple local symphonies and i've always had raves. ibought em at $280/piece but with competition they're down to 200..i'd buy em again for 300. also i bought a c3000 and have been underwhelmed. wish i'd waited to afford an at40..
and you're right great mics make all the difference..
good luck..

On The Other Hand...

I bought a pair of C1000s about the same time you did and have used them on just about everything for just about every type of recording just as you did. I didn't know what I was missing until I started using Crown CM-700s and Shure SM-81s at school.

IMHO, to date, you CAN'T find a more versatile and better sounding small diaphragm condenser for the price than you can with an Oktava MC-012 from The Sound Room only for $300US. http://www.oktava.com Then would be the Shure SM-81 http://www.shure.com then the Crown CM-700. http://www.crownaudio.com

Needless to say, I have recently both of my C1000s.
