Hmm... so are you saying that a 100w amp into a 8ohm loud (rated) would be louder than 100w amp into a 4ohm load? ((assuming all else is equal))
No, I am saying they would be the same.

so to clarify again, this is what i'm dealing with at the moment:

4ohm amp head
2 16ohm 10"s
8ohm 15"

i like the 2x10 enclosure, its light and seems to be built pretty alright, so i don't mind replacing the speakers. i like my 15 too! i just don't want to do anything stupid.
If you got the 2X10 working, it would be an 8 ohm cabinet. If the 15 is and 8 ohm cabinet as well, you would have an 4 ohm load when you hooked them both up. Exactly what you want.

I don't think so. If you could find two speakers with the same dB/watt sensitivity, but one is 8 ohms and the other 4, I'm pretty sure that the 4 ohm speaker would be louder if the amp is the same. The power goes down as the inverse of the resistance of the speaker, but up as the square of the current it draws. If you halve the resistance, in the equation P= I^2/R and invoking Ohm's Law for constant voltage, the denominator doubles but the numerator increases by a factor of 4 for a net increase of X2. If the speakers are identically efficient, then it seems to me that this must indicate a higher volume.

This is theory, of course, and dB/watt is not a constant across all power values, as I have assumed. I've also assumed constant voltage output from the amp into both loads, which may not be valid. I'd like to see the real world experiment.

hah, alright, the whole time thats what i thought but i kept screwing up my numbers on here
thank you guys so much for all the help, i tried giving as much positive rep as i could

Here is a simple wiring explaination that should help......

http://www.usspeaker.com/speaker wiring-1.htm

and I have a stupid question,.....

are there no other outputs, or way to switch ohms from your amp...??

and if you go to any reliable online source, or local to you,.... any

should have speakers that will work in your Steel cabinet...

reg guitar speakers will work,... but you really do want something with a bass in mind,... more power handling capacity, without the sonic range,.....

My choice would be Avatar.

I think their site is....

http://avatarspeakers.com/

anyway,..... try local first tho,.. much quicker ...
