I need help...

I have a new Korg Triton LE and SONAR, and I have what seems to be the most basic problem there is.

How can I record multiple channels of music using my Korg's synth? I have the Korg hooked up to the computer through the MIDI IN/OUT cables and the audio output/line in cord. But whenever I record one track on channel one, and then arm another on channel two, I can't hear anything played on channel two. The GLOBAL MIDI channel is the only one I can hear anything on, so I can really only record one track.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
 
The midi out on the korg has to be set for the correct channel,at present you are using ch 1.
Another option is to change the channel of the prerecorded track to another channel.
You should be able to get 16 different channels going at once only limited by your polyphony.
 
Sorry, but I'm new at this, so I'm not picking this up that easily.

What happens is that I can't record one track on channel one (on Sonar) and then afterwards record another on channel two. It only plays whichever track has its channel in my global MIDI settings.

When I highlight the second track, with channel two as the output, I can't hear anything.

Basically, I need to know how to use my Korg's sounds on SONAR instead of my soundcard's synth.
 
Okay I'm gonna walk ya through this,
open a project
in the first midi track asign the output to your keyboard,there should be a dropdown menu listing your options
assign input to ch1
you can now record a track

you may have to assign a patch number to keep the keyboard from going to the default sound,this will not be a problem if you are using a general midi patch,if you want a patch that is unique to your korg you may want to import an instrument definition file which will make your life a bit easier

Now if you know how to switch the midi channel output onyour korg switch it to channel 2
make a new midi track and asign the input to ch2 and output to your keyboard.

Be aware that if there is not a specific midi track set for this channel sonar will default to channel 1

Instead of doing this you could change the input on the previously recorded track to another channel and continue using channel 1 as your recording channel.

Just remember to always have an individual track asigned for each sound ,the recorded tracks and the track you are working on.

Each track pane in sonar has multiple windows ,they must be asigned properly for things to work right,take some time to study the features of both the audio and midi track panes.
This may be a bit complicated at first but when you get the hang of it this will become an extremely powerful tool.

The reason you're not getting any sound output when you highlight channel 2 is because your keyboard is running on ch 1 you must change this or change the input channel on the recorded track and continue using ch 1 on new tracks.
 
I can do that, changing the channels on the keyboard and SONAR, but then I can't hear the first track I played.
 
This may not be of any help, but on the global section of my synth I have 3 modes to work in with MIDI.

1) I have mode that is to be used when sequencing parts for other MIDI devices in addition to the synth. I actually have to select a midi channel the synth will send out on. (If I shoose Channel 1 it will send out data on that channel. Sonar's track must be ready to receive/record on midi channel 1 for this to work). With this mode selected I can't hear my synth unless Sonar echoes the MIDI data back to my synth's MIDI IN port. Local control for my synth is turned off.

2) I use this mode when I use layers or split the keyboard and I am sending on many MIDI channels at once. I do need to have MIDI Out enabled for every MIDI Channel within the layer or split I want Sonar to record. I turn off the echo MIDI data in Sonar

3) This is the solo mode. I use this mode is I'm sequencing with the synth alone (no external MIDI modules). The keyboard only sends on one MIDI channel at a time, and I change the channel on the synth for each separate track on the sequencer. Again, I turn off echo MIDI data in Sonar.

Basically, with your keyboard I would check with the manual and see what modes it has for MIDI. Like Acidrock stated earlier, it can seem a little daunting at first, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature...
