So recently I rented out a commercial space in Brooklyn to run my project studio. I had to move it from my home because the lady of the house is always bothering me with 100 million questions. Anyways I got this really great deal 2 10x10 rooms for 600$ a month. There was already a window installed and the owner had some pretty decent sound absorption on the wall. The previous occupants used both spaces for rehearsal rooms. What I want to do is run my microphone/line/headphone cables from my control room into my "booth". Being that the walls are already up would it be possible for me to do such a thing? I researched "snakes" and soldering. My other option is run the cables under one door to the other door, which I don't want to do. I feel that looks tacky and could possibly damage my cables. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

A few wall-mounted jacks and you're done. Twenty bucks or so.

.... 2 10x10 rooms for 600$ a month.

Only in NY.....

Anyway...it's just cable, man and some minor parts.
You need mic/line/headphone cables that will go from one to the other room....what's the real question?
How you get it there (wall jacks, long runs) is up to you and what your landlord allows AFA drilling holes through walls....but for $600/month, he should stand there and hold them for you. :D ;)

HA! The previous tenant was paying 750$ *does robot into handstand* nah but thanks for your response. And your right only in NY. For a 10x13 people are asking for 600$ and 500 for a 10x9.3. For right now this shall suffice.

Yeah, get rid of that. Not good stuff, unless you like the smell while you burn up in fire...

You didn't say how many channels you needed (12 inputs, 4 headphones, 4 line ins?). If you're good with a soldering iron, the most cost effective way would be some jack plates (look like outlet covers), jacks and cable. Or get 2 metal plates about the size of a sheet of paper and have someone drill all your holes for the jacks, and build 2 junction boxes. If the walls are made up of dry wall, that's an easy repair job to whatever modifications you make. If you had a snake, you could knock a small hole in a desired location and feed one connector at a time. It looks like all power outlets are the same height as the light switches, just remember to be aware of where that wiring is. Knock a small hole, then exam with a flash light and mirror. So when you are drilling or screwing into the walls you are away from electricity.

Sorry about that...yeah I'm trying to have 12 Mic Inputs, 4 Line in inputs and 4 headphone inputs. And thanks for the feedback

This is not good, no matter what you're paying.

What is this "pretty decent sound absorption" you speak of?

It's good enough for me chief it's a start...

Some very ugly and unsafe carpet padding staple to the wall. I've already recieved permission to remove it.

2 10x10 room
This is not good, no matter what you're paying.
au contraire ..... it's awesome!!! You know how many rooms I have for my studio? None .......
You know how much better 2 10ft square rooms are than none?
Infinitely better ..... way WAY better!
Two 10 foot square rooms would be awesomely wonderful to have!!

See my point?
Why tell someone their new space or thing that they already have is no good?

That's always bugged me ...... used to be some newb would come in and express their excitement over buying a cheap piece of Behringer gear ..... and QQ would come in, every damned time, and post a response that they should have saved their money instead of totally wasting it on a complete POS.
Used to drive me nuts ..... here a newb is excited about getting their first piece of, to them, good gear and they get told they are stupid for doing that.

Whoah. Easy there Bob. Don't put words in my mouth. I never said anything about anyone being stupid. Do I think it's "smart" to pay $600 a month for 2 10X10 rooms? No, I don't, but I didn't say that. :)

I didn't say "Get out of there, it's no good". But a square room is not ideal, in fact it's worse than not ideal. It's terrible. Is it better than nothing? Yeah, I suppose.

My point was more along the lines of "Don't expect to get great recordings and/or mixes in that room, even with a ll the best room treatment in the world". On top of that, the "room treatment" that's in that room now is pretty much the worse material you can use.

Sorry to rain on the love-fest. I was just pointing out the obvious, really.

well, first off I'm not excited or anything so I don't have to calm down ..... I'm extremely calm! :D

But I feel like I was stating what I consider to be a fact .... that some people immediately point out the negatives before anything else.
And when someone is coming in being obviously happy about their new thing or space why immediately tell them negatives about it?
First off an awful lot of great recordings have been done in less than ideal rooms.

So why make it negative?

To me a better way would be to suggest that 'you're gonna have to deal with the square room problems you're gonna have'.
Right off the bat you can close-mic everything and greatly diminish or eliminate the room from the equation.

I just don't personally like to see the immediate negatives and only negatives to someone else's new thing. Seems almost like an attack to me.
That's just me I suppose.

What you call "negative", I call the truth. The title of his post was "I NEED HELP", not "PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO HEAR.

OP, forget everything I said. Your room dimensions are perfect. The foam crap you have on the walls is awesome. You might want to staple some egg cartons to the ceiling, too. I apologize. I have no idea what I was thinking.

I appreciate everyone's opinion in every form. My dimensions might be wrong the rooms combined are retengualr shaped. Am I expecting to get million dollar records done in this room NO. This space is soley for me to cut demos and work on production for my clients. Although I only posted to find out how to run cables from one room to another the extra advice is definitly appreciated. We all know that man records aren't cut in the ideal recording spaces. Do I feel like you rained on my parade nah not at all it's gonna take alot more than that. Do I feel like you stated facts about the room not being could because it's square yes. Do I feel like what you stated is truth...Welp that's all a matter of opinion, but what isn't? Once again thank you guys for the feedback.

but it's safe when under carpet like it is everywhere that has carpet?

The carpet is wall to wall...the stuff on the wall goes under carpets...it deadens the sound of the room BUT from what I've just learned isn't safe.
