I have a Dell computer with a Yamaha soundcard.I'm trying to figure out which Sequencing program would be good for me.I dont need a lot of that in depth stuff I just want the basic's.The only time I might need something more in depth is when im using the guitar.I'm going to hook my yamaha keyboard. Also,I wanted to know is there any way possible for me to record non-midi sounds. All the sounds I use in my beats are not midi.If i can't do that with sequencing, then what do I need. PLESE HELP

A very general question. There are a lot of soundcards and sequencing programs there and what you like will depend on the music you do and how you like to work (if you don't know now, you will start to develop a working style soon).

A sequencer will let you record and store midi data which will tell drum machines/synths and samplers what to play. To record audio (sound) like accoustic instruments, the outputs of your drum machines/synths/samplers you will need an audio recording program. Similarly, if you have drum loops or sound effects etc. you will need to play them as audio.

Try going to a place like: http://www.sonicspot.com/ and looking at audio recording and sequening shareware. Some of the programs really are shareware and others are demos of the big/powerful/complex programs that are commercially available. Try downloading a couple in each catagory. If you are new to this, probably none of it will be real easy. You will have lots of questions. Be patient, read the help files etc. Also, try reading some of the general threads about recording/sequencing etc. Try the home page of this site, it has some good info. There are lots of sites that offer helpful advice out there.

Have fun makin' music!!
