I need help with outboard fx and latency!!

hi,
I have two questions to ask. I just got my lexicon lxp-1 multi-fx, and I was wondering:

1. What is the most efficient way to record an fx, using a track that is already in my computer.

Right now, I send the track to a different aux(which is feeding the lexicon, and then I record the ouputs of the lexicon.

2. How do I get rid of the very low latency that occurs when I record the fx. it seems to be like less than 1 ms, but i can hear that flange like effect and it drives me nuts.


this is the first time I am using an outboard unit, and I have never used a mixer, so I really need your help.

Is this right?
You send say, vox out channels 3&4 into the FX.
Then FX into say inputs 3&4 on your sound card.

Works for me like this, as for the sound problems...
1) Try muting the monitoring on the input you record the effected signal with.

When I first tried to do this on my card I had the same problem, it causes a slight feedback loop if you don't and most likely that's what you're hearing.

2) Are you muting the original version of the wav when you playback with the effected one? This shouldn't be a problem really, 1ms is sweet F/A , and most sequencers will compensate for the sound cards latency, but not if it's trying to record a loop. I think both problems will be fixed by muting the input mentioned above.
