I'm having some trouble getting the
sound I want from my drum miking.
When I mic my drums and listen to them
in the headphones, I hear a slight delay
and a very pronounced "attack" of the
sticks hitting the drum heads. The
"attack" over powers the tone of the
drums.
The room is large and mostly empty. It
is also open to another large room via
a wall that does not extend all the way
up to the ceiling (approximately 10.5'
high).
At present, I've tried the "Recorder
Man" method with two SM57s and, with two
Audix ADX51s. The same results with
both. (I have an AKG D112 Bass Drum mic
on the way.)
I'm using a Mackie 1604 board and
sending it's output into a Sony
reciever. Which is what I've plugged my
headphones into.
I don't know what the problem is, is it
the room? Is it something I'm doing or
not doing with the mixing board?
I've tried surrounding my drums in a
10X10 area, with comforters on all
sides, even overhead, but the results
were no different.
Does anyone have any idea what the
problem might be? I'd appreciate any
input.
