Hi guys,

Is me again :D :o

I recently bought a sound card (M-Audio 24/96 audiophile).

When I bought it I came here(as usual)to get some feedback
on how to connect the sound card and my mixer(MG 10/2).

Some guy told me how to connect the sound card and mixer.
I tried it and works but not as I wanted to.

Here is the thing.....I want to connect my monitores, mic and headphones
into my mixer. I Set up everything in my program(AA 1.5) the inputs and outputs so that could work with my sound card.

For some reason when I try to record, the beat in the first channel gets recorded in the secound channel and if i put more volume on my headphones
more loud the beat gets recorded.

My question is do I need a bigger sound card(with more ins and outs)
or am I connecting everything wrong. And if i need to buy anything
extra, money is not a problem.

Please if you guys can help me out
I would really appreciated :) :D

Thank you for reading :)

I'm not experienced with your perticular mixer, but the most common way to set this up would be to run the stereo outs of your mixer into the inputs of your sound card, then run the outs of your sound card back into your mixer. Now bus the output of your soundcard to your control room outputs which should be connected to your monitors.

Stereo outs --> Audio card inputs

Audio card outputs ---> line in on mixer ---> bus to control room --> monitors

Yeah, again I'm lazy, so that probably could have made more sense if I wasn't.

Oh thanks for the reply

But my mixer doesn't have a Line in(I think)
Heres a Pic so you can see it and you tell me
If Im right or wrong(Probably so) :D
HERE

It probably wouldn't be a mixer if there wasn't any lines in. Actually you have 8 of them. The first 4 channels have a mono line in and the last two have stereo lines in. (Also looks like u have 6 rca lines in).....

I'm not sure if theres a way on this perticular mixer to choose what gets sent to your control room outputs... Maybe someone with experience could help you with that.

For now, you could simply plug the outputs of your soundcard into the line ins of your monitors, or amp if they arent powered, you just wouldn't have an easy to access volume control.

Just remeber, as long as you hook inputs to outputs, and outputs to inputs, you usually are pretty safe. (When dealing with line and mic level sources).

I knew I was very very wrong :D

Ive got another question.....Should I buy another sound card like the m-audio Delta 1010 and another mixer just to be able to connect my headphones
and some instruments that I have. Or what would you suggest me
to buy just to be able to connect all my studio gear?

And thank you very much for taking your time to explain this to
me.....I really appreciated :) :D

Ok, how do you want it to record? The 24/96 audiophile only records stereo, so I'd take an rca from rec out to the 24/96 and return from there to the 2tr in. Making sure that you put red to red and white to white. I'd connect the monitors from the ST out, and the phones from phones. I think your problem is that you are using the c-r out which is controlled by the c-r/phones knob. to record, plug a mic into tracks 1-4 and pan left to record on channel one, and right for channel two. What software are you using? Set it up so that it inputs left as channel one and right as channel two. If you use audacity, i think it only allows you to record one track at a time, so record in stereo and split it to two mono channels later, unless you want it recorded in stereo. If you want all tracks to be recorded seperately then get a sound card with more inputs, delta 44, delta 1010, or something similar. you can output 5 channels with this desk. On channel 1 connect the insert to channel 1 on the soundcard, 2 same but to 2 keeping the levels down(off)for both, three and four pan left and right and turn up the levels and connect ST out left to channel three of soundcard, and right to 4, and 7-8 and 9-10 can be output in mono via aux 1. Keep the level down and turn up(anticlockwise)aux 1 and output that from aux 1 to channel 5. If it is possible to record using both the audiophile and a delta 44 at the same time then get that for 6 channel recording and output channels 3 and 4 out the rec out to the audiophile. You have to then route from the computer, everything in stereo, probably best using the audiophile back the the mixer in 2tr in like before, and have the speakers come out either st out, preferred(if using the audiophile in conjunction with the delta 44), or c-r out if using the st outs to record channels 3 and 4. I hope this makes sense and helps.

Oh nice Im going to try this then....

I record in stereo, I think Im going to get the delta 1010 and
a bigger mixer :D

Thank you for the reply and taking the time to explain this to me :)

If you want to save alot of money. Spend $30. Get a book about recording, read it and figure out what you really need. This will save you alot of money in the long run, because you won't buy things you don't need and it will probably help you make better recordings.

How many channels do you want to record simultaniously, and i'll try to help you find the cheapest option?

and i'll just take ur small mixer and audiophile card off your hands
for free...
ok, $10 :)

Ok, now I'm serious. How much would you sell that mixer for? Would you be able to ship it cheaply to the UK? I'm in need of something like that.

If you are still at this stage in your recording knowledge, you will be better off do more reading than going shoping. Try this site.
