Ok, well, I have a Presonus Firepod, an AT 2020, a MXL 990, a CAD GXL 3000, and two really cheap dynamics...

Were having band practice tommorow, and I just wanna mess around, try and see what kind of quality recording I can get with what I have, which i know is not great.

We have drums, bass, and one guitar to mic + vox, which i figured id over dub.

How would you place the mics in my situation?

Thanks for any help!

dynamics on bass drum and bass, Cad for overs.
the AT on vocal, MXL on guitar ...
Yeah, I guess this should do the work!

just one OH?

And how far away from the guitar amp? We play hard rock if that helps.

1 over! this is a very simple set that should work for you.. and you will discover your own techniques with time...
it's always better putting short distances between the mics and instruments when recording live.. so put your cardioid mic right there ;)
ah, and try to not use compressors, eq's, etc. just set up the volumes and let the dynamics/processing later to your software plug-ins.
My english sucks, I know..
best luck with your recordings..!
