Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. So I will introduce myself first :
I'm french ( and I'm a bit bad in English :( ) so I will try to be the most understandable as I can. I started home recording one year ago and I always learnt alone.

Now, I will explain my problem, here is my last export :

I don't know what to do to improve this, I need advices on it. Thanks for your help :)

Guitar Ampsim : TSE X30 1.6 Sovtek
Bass Ampsim : IK AmpegSVX
Drum sim : Superior drummer 2 ( Metal Foundry )

The guitar sounds right.
The bass needs more definition IMO.
The drums need some more definition as well.

You could start by lowering volume with the guitars and seeing if you can bring the rhythm section out a little more.

The writing is the best part of this piece and makes it worth working on.

You could possibly condense this idea as well.
A tight 4 minute version with vocals could be highly entertaining.

I tried to improve the bass definition and I changed a bit the guitar's EQ to be more "dark".

But i don't know how can I improve the drum definition :/

I do record music like u do in my own little basement studio. Been doing this for a couple of years, in and out, and i did learn by myself too. Your mix's pretty good in my opinion but again, I'm only a beginner at this who's using way too much compressors to make my songs sound ok ;) I'm impressed by your guitar, it sounds like crazy. You're using mics + amps or something like a pod ?

As for your drums, I'm wondering if your willing to share your preset? I use Metal foundry too with a roland td-20 and I'd like to ear what it sounds like without instruments. I could share some as well.

Anyways, your stuff sounds way more than mine so keep working man, ur already pretty good!

Hi everyone,
I think I improved the mix a lot, can you tell me what you think?

Hi rFlex,

I only listened to your last mix, so that's the one I'm commenting on. I think your performance is really, really good, and I like the writing and the musicianship very much. I'm not usually a fan of instrumentals at all, but this one has enough change and variation in the parts that it keeps things interesting. I'd still love to hear it with vocals though :) Did you play the guitars and write this tune? Do you sing too?

I love the guitar tones for the style this is in, and wish I could get tones like that without sounding like a buzzsaw :o Nice work! Drums are pretty good, but a little difficult to hear well, so it's hard to be sure.

Mix-wise, I'd like to hear it with the snare up about 0.5 - 1.0 dB, kick drum staying at the same level it is now, hats and cymbals the same, bass guitar the same, but everything else, including all the guitars, down about 1dB. I think that alone might be enough to get your drums out a little more and make the whole thing gel a little more. You might even go a little lower with the guitars, but not much, as I think it's close as it is. The drums just need to stand out a little more.

After that, there might be some minor EQ tweaking on the kick/snare, etc that becomes more apparent. But like I said, I think it's already very close.

Sounds great overall, keep up the good work!

Best Regards,
