I Need Help Bad!!!

Ok, I'm recording in Cool Edit 2.0...as I use L1 Ultramaximizer on my vocals, instead of doing its job, it shortens the vocals down to about 3 seconds of speeded up garbled up bullshit.

How do I keep this from happeneing?
