Hey. I have an Event Gina as my main soundout on my computer that is hooked to my stereo receiver. I need to get some real badass cable, but I can't locate any.

I need it to have 2 1/4" jacks on one end, and 2 rca on the other. I'm wondering what brands you know of that make this type of cable and where I can purchase some? Im hoping someone makes this kind of cable, cause I'd like to eliminate all those weird adapters.

Thanks guys.

Why not?? ...it's really easy and a skill well worth picking up.

I dunno. I'd really rather just buy something nice rather than having some hokey homemade thing. Its a personal preferance, I just like having nice stuff, and am willing to lay down the cash to get it.

I agree with Coop. It's a skill that's worth picking up. Not only for making your own studio cable but also for being able to fix a cable under a recording session or gig. It may be hard to get a new cable a 3AM...

Someone posted really great instructions here a while back (I think it was in studio building...). Check them out and buy beer for the tons of cash you save.

I agree with KingNothing

Buy them. Your local recording shop SHOULD have this stuff. If not, kick their bums and go to a fancy HiFi shop instead.

Monster is the way to go for your crucial connections. I tried 'em next to generic "good" cables. It's noticeably more transparent - you get more highs and harmonics. Cable's the weakest link and all your cool gear is only as good as the cables.

King,

Mogami makes some cable like that. I saw it in the Full Compass catalog (in the back section - "yellow pages"). Go to http://www.fullcompass.com and get the catalog or order from them. Make sure you get the Mogami brand. They've got a couple of lesser brands.

warm up that soldering iron

I remember my "baptism of fire" as a 15 year old sound man soldering XLR plugs onto Belden cable before a gig at Shephard AFB here in Tx.Barely made it before showtime!Being your own tech to the extent of your dexterity and skills can help save you time and money in many little but important ways.Of course,I understand that some guys have the bucks and want to just buy the best.Try to find a tech to build your cords, switches etc.It will be better quality and price than off the shelf gear.

Tom

Monster cables, BTW

Just wanted to mention that Monster has 3 basic classes of cables:

100 = simple cables with Monster logo and a higher price tag then generic, etc. (I don't think these are worth considering, might as well stick with Hosa and Groove Plugs)
500 = good cables with Monster technology, though more expensive (I try to use these as my instrument and mic cables)
1000 = pro quality cables that are ridiculously expensive. I played in a band with a bassist, who bought a 20" Monster 1000 cable for like $120!

manufacturing your own cables can be a good alternative to the pricey Monster Cable. However, good soldering technique is a skill that can only be acquired by practice, and your first attempts are likely to be far below the quality that lead you to post this in the first place. The higher quality brands of preassembled cables employ manufacturing methods that would be dificult to duplicate at your kitchen table.

Good Luck
