I recently purchased a Tascam 488 tape machine to record my band because we wanted that analog sound, but no one in my town or anywhere near records analog without costing atleast $1,500 for an EP, which we just did not have. I decided on going bare bones on basically everything, because like I said we dont have much money. I got a large diaphragm condenser an Audio Technica AT3035 and 2 SM57's and started getting the ball rolling. I had no prior recording experience, so I would like some feedback! A couple of the songs are on my band's myspace

Ahh sweet tape sound, bit of hiss and lots of tape compression.

Listening on headphones as I type.....

Rhythm guitar(s) are a bit cloudy, I would try some more highs on them. Maybe try moving the mic more towards the center of the speaker to capture more highs. Level could cme up a tad....

Harmonica sounds good.....

I'm getting some low end rumble - not sure if it's from the kick drum or the bass guitar. Maybe the kick and toms.....

My friend Mike always says add highs to tape cause you lose some on mixdown.

The tune itself and performance is great - just a few mixing tweaks and this will be done......

Good One!

:D :) :D :)

The drums really are just a jumble of muddy sound.
Is this an all in live recording? - sounds it.
The chord progression is good.
The bass is way too murky. There's a rumble going on amongst the rhythm section. If you can try to EQ a bit of clarity - look up EQ carving.
The vocals might be good with a bit of work - the lyric seem pretty good.
The static effect on the vocals was good, I can't decide whether that should've been the beginning of a fade out though.
A GREAT start - I wish my 1st recordings were this good.
