Kustom

I recently purchased a Kustom KAA30 acoustic amp that has a celestion, reverb and chorus...2 inputs, a frequency adjustment knob besides the others, and a line out. I use a gibson 335 reissue, a takamine electric nylon string and a cozard strat ripoff with it and the sounds are awesome.By the way, it only cost 170.00 and worth every penny!!

get a gibson les paul studio you can get them for a little bit over 1000 dollars if that is in your price range ( i hav a les paul and the power shords last forever on it! i'll post something else if i think of anything cheaper

I quite frankly am shocked with all the post here that no one mentioned a Line 6 POD 2.0 or a Pod XT or POD XTLive. Yes I know you said Amp, but you said:

I want to use it exclusively for recording in the studio.
I don't need (or want for that matter) a huge stack for live gigging.
I want something that'll give a classic rock sound.
I want something small for miking up.
I don't need (or want for that matter) crunchy distortion

Well The POD series of products will give you everything you asked for and a whole lot more. And being they are designed for direct recording you won't have to mic anything. And being the you are recording, I will assume you have monitors or at the very least headphones: so you could use one or the other to utilize the POD as little practice amp(s). And all of the products are well under your price point and IMHO will provide you much greater flexibility in a studio then a single lower priced amp.

But if you still want an amp I would look at the Line6 Flextone III or Flextone III XL which is basically a slimed down POD/XT in an amp. They run right around your price point or slightly higher and you can still record direct with them.

I'll build you one that is all Class A, hand wired, point to point, Champ clone, with killer tone, and any speaker you want,.... Email me,..

Remember... Let your ear be the judge of what sounds good to you. As far as what you would need; if you are practicing at home you don't even need an amp. Get an amp modeler!! I have one and its great! For practicing with my band I use a 100watt tube amp and its perfect. It sounds good with my effect pedals, but thats all relevant to the amp. For example on my fender Deluxe 40, the effects loop is noisy as hell and sounds horrible. On the Peavey XXX it sounds pristine. Try stuff out, and see what works. And remember get what you need first not what you want.

how much? im interested.

about $400 plus shipping and service charges,... I think the last one was about $430 all together with a nice 12" Joseph Amp speaker made by Eminence,...I have one ready to go with a 50 watt Celestion Rocket speaker,....

They all come with an extra set of power, and preamp tubes of differing varieties to change the tone,.. as well as a 6-10' cord for the speaker, with a 1/4" jack attached so you can use the box as an extention speaker for another amp if you want,...

I have been including your choice of the following as the xtra tubes,.. most are used tubes that have been tested at 80% or better,... and are old stock,.. such as,.... RCA,GE,etc... I have the following avail right now,... RCA, 12AU7,... g
GE,and others, 12AT7,.. a few 12AY7, and some 5751,.. a couple of 7025, and some 5963(12AU7)military version,... all preamp tubes,... as for the power tube,... the amp will be tubed with NOS stuff I have in the following varieties,... Mullard 6V6, Tung-sol 6V6, RCA metal 6V6(these sound great by the way,...)as well as some GE 6V6,.. and some VERY old Bottle shaped stuff too...

the Rectifier can be either a 5Y3 of varying names, or a 5V4 which is a bit quicker response to your dynamics,.... both sound good when pushed....

I prefer tube rectifiers as they really do add a spectrum to your playing ... even tho a solid state rectifier ends up with more power,... what happens with that is it goes to full power almost immeadiatly upon turning on the amp, which is VERY bad for the power tubes, as they are much slower to warm up to operating temps,... and this results in much less time they are efficient or an early death if you put it another way,.... Tube rectifiers warm up to the right temp at about the same rate as the power tubes,... MUCH better in the long haul....

Anyway,.... I usually test out the speaker /tube selection by playing my 12 String Martin thru it and choose a combination that is a true depiction of that sound,.... which has turned out to be a good way to get a nice sound....

I will put any choice you have in it tho,... just ask,.... if you want any particular speaker,... I can adjust the price according to what it is, and how much I can get it for,.... just passing on the difference,....

The one I have been using have been in the $50-$75 range, so are included in the price I quoted....

I will forward a photo of the one with the Rocket 50 speaker if you want,.... and will get a quote on shipping from UPS, or whatever you prefer for a carrier,....

This offer should really be in the 'for sale' forum,.. so if the large scaley one wants to move it,.... please don't get too mad at me.... :o

For my money, a Musicman 212 has DEEP DEEP THROAT. Fenderish, yet silky. Its a damn workhorse too! Love its tone with a strat. Different than a twin, but healthy chording, detailed soloing, and you can make it talk softly, make it sing like a woman, or make it growl like a bluesman. :D
