I need advice

I am recording a variety of instruments of all types, i.e., winds, drums, strings, kalimbas, etc.. I'm all set on the front side, but I need advice on the back. I'm recording into a Mackie SDR2496, which I'm happy with. I'm mixing down with analog boards (I need to use two to get over sixteen tracks) and I'd like to switch to digital with capability to use all 24 tracks in the hard drive. Am I better off buying a stand alone mixer (if so what kind?) or a computer? What are the advantages/disadvantages? I have a fair amount of ADAT experience, but I'm about ten years out of date. I don't need to do a lot of processing, but I would like to be able to cut and paste. I find myself a bit bewildered with all the new methods and tools and I'd love some good advice. Thanks.

Doesn't the SDR do cut and paste?

How much do you want to spend? Mixing on computer is cheaper in the short run and external mixers are more expensive but have better resell value and sometimes more flexiblity and quality.

The Yamaha and Tascam digital mixers are pretty popular.
