I need a soundcard (newbie)

Im currently running a onboard soundcard, i need to get a actualy sound card,

I record guitar, and use VST drums and bass.. and i record vocals, so i dont need many channels......

Can you guys help me choosing a soundcard?

I can spend about $300-400 Australian dollars
for some help right now the currencey conversion is

$100 AUD = $80 USD

Ask me any questions, i do need help.

You've got lots of options.

$100 will get you an M-Audio audiophile if you're OK with pci and don't need preamp., 2 analog inputs, 2 outs.

$200 will get you a Presonus Inspire, firewire, comes with 2 preamps, Hi-Z,4 analog inputs, & I think 4 outs

$300 will get you a Presonus Firebox, firewire, 2 preamps, Hi-Z, 4 analog inputs & 6 outs

In a way... the Inspire has 6 outs. 2 which are RCA stereo pair, 2 that come from a speaker out 1/8 stereo jack, which does not go through the internal mixer, and 2 that come from a headphone out 1/8 jack that does go through the internal mixer. And the Inspire is "stackable". Another unit can be added, later, to double the ins and outs. But, the Inspire has no midi.
