i need a good preamp

right now i am looking into a mic preamp, and i am looking into buy one, at the most 150$. i mostly record hard rock/metal, so what would be the best preamp to get a good "heavy" sounding distortion with?
 
Are you certain it is a new pre amp you are after? Off course pre amps are important, but for distortion sounds I would first see if I had a great mic(s)and a good guitar sound (quality of guitar and amp/cabinet).

For 150.. I think Joe Meek has some decent pre's that aren't too expensive. Behringer also has a tube pre amp for about €60, but I haven't tried them yet...
