hey, I have about 1000 to spend, and I would really love a custom built guitar preferably with a custom paint job. I could get more money over time, but I want to get the best bang for my buck. ne ideas?!?!?

Try building it yourself.....
you can get everything you could possibly need to build
it, paint it and wire it from stewmac.com

just a thought

I deal with this guy he is a french luthier his guitars are to die for and the money you have to spend will be enough to get you a dream guitar from this guy here is his url i have only great things to say about Roger if your brave enough to take the plunge you too will be raving for years to come :)

What type of guitar are you looking to get? $1000 will be pushing it. $1500 is closer to custom territory but it depends a lot on the finish.

For $1000.

Can't get a custom guitar for that.

You can get some great axes though. I'm just wondering why you need a custom axe. There are so many flavors to choose from in every price range, what more could you want.

Let's face it - signiture models are all about marketing anyway. Of course I can see how you might want to choose all your options and woods and such, but I wouldn't say that's "custom", I would call that Carvin.

Buy your guitar for it's sound. Not the looks. What use is a 1500$ guitar that looks good if you can get an ugly guitar for 700$ that sounds WAY better? (Not saying that I know a guitar of 700$ that sounds better, just to make a point.)

Buy it for the sound. Not the looks. Even if it'll make you look like a sissy.

i don't really have ne reasom to have a custom built guitar, i just want one so it would seem like a greater reflection of myself (kind of dumb, but thats my choice)... And as far as looks go, i know that one should buy a guitar for sound, but that is why i would tell the builder what kind of woods, pickups, and neck type i want. I just wanted to know where I can find one. I've seen ones by esp, and the LOOK nice, but all esps feel, and sound like shit to me. I've seen jackson ones, and they are nice; I just wanted some more opinions.

~thanks

Tone is most important, but it ain't no fun to play a guitar you don't like. $1k might get you a decent custom. However, my ESP custom originally cost $2,100. Thus, you may need to shop around.

I have a couple custom guitars and the big thing is what do you want to custom?

You can get custom Les Pauls or custom Strats. You can get the Carvin line with custom features. You can even get a custom PRS. Each of these would be the standard guitar built and featured to your specifications.

If you are talking about a completely custom axe where you specify everything (neck radius, length of the selector switch, body configuration, etc.) then you have a lot of work ahead of you just planning what you want. You will need to write up your plans and then send them to several luthiers to get a quote.

You could be closer to your budget if you select a model and then specify the custom features that you want.

MJ MIRAGE MJ MIRAGE MJ MIRAGE MJ MIRAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they're used by Kevin Cadogan, formally known as 3eb guitarist thesedays with Cousin Kevin, and Stroke 9, and Matchbox 20 ( i think uses them)

These guitars start at about $950 and go up for the cheap ones. They make custom guitars also.

these guitars especially the custom and standard are absolutly beutyful ( i STILL can't spell that word) the are some of the best if not the best looking guitars you will ever see.

For $1000 you can't get a Jackson Custom Shop guitar. They more start at $2000. I mean on some Custom Shop Jacksons, only the graphic costs more than $1000, look at GMWGuitars, they do most of the graphic work for the Jackson Custom Shop (www.GMWGuitars.com)
Also the wait time on a Custom Shop guitar from Jackson is now at 1 year and that will increase in the future.
They absolutly are worth the money but keep in mind, it doesn't pay out to order a custom shop guitar with only some small differences to the USA select series models. They both are manufactured in the same factory and have the same quality. And a Custom Shop costs much more than the USA series models.
For $1000 i would search around for a beautiful USA made series guitar from Jackson. They are amazing guitars (if you like the look of those pointy guitars).
