Can anyone recommend a good book that will give me fundamental recording techniques, such as mic placement, recording drums and vocals, and using compression and other effects??? I need good sound basics! Thanks

Huber & Runstein's "Modern Recording Techniques" is a de facto standard.

I read this two and I loved them...they helped me a lot...

Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook
JBL Audio Engineering For Sound Reinforcement

Byre,
That is an incredible looking studio bro!!!
Nice.
Excuse my drool.

Check out "Home Recording For Musicians For Dummies." It has a lot of really good stuff in it. Very basic. Also, something that is really cool is this program called "Studio Buddy." You just open it up and just about everything that you can imagine is covered in the topics. Just go to Google and type in Studio Buddy and you should find a few sites that have it.
