Been using fruity loops for some time now but have decided to go back to basics just to fine tune my music making techniques. I create dance/house/trance music and usually i create my own little loops on fruity loops but at the moment im using some loops which i purchased which include everything such as drums, bass, synth and pads. I made a song earlier with this and will post it on the mixing clinic when i have fully completed it. But as the title says, am i cheat for creating A WHOLE song with loops? or should i be making loops myself? is it lazy?

Honestly? Yeah, i think that's cheating,

But don't sweat it. It's a great way to learn a lot about making music, and to find out if it's for you.

It sounds like you wanna branch out a bit so go for it :)

That's just my opinion.

Thanks for your opinion man. Just searching a few topics on the web about this, coming up with a few different opinions. Quite mixed.

You should totly check out the philosophical forum at the bottom of the page...

You are not cheating - just using a product the way it was designed. If you do not use instrument then you are not a musician. Two different animals..

there is no such thing as cheating with music, short of stealing someones song

but you will get bored pretty quickly and be extremely limited in what you can achieve

try making your own loops, all music is loops, even rock...you can break down into bars and components...building blocks...but if you are trying to get a whole song out of pre-recorded 8bar loops, with no variation, then you may end up being the only one listening to it

yeh i agree with you about the getting bored part. I think what has made me make a track with loops is because recently with making tracks in fruity loops i have found i can easily make them just as well using loops rather than build them up myself. I dont know what type of music you generally make but i presume rock judging from your posts but could you listen to the track i posted above and just let me know what you think? does it sound good enough? or do you think its boring? feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

yeah I record rock...thats what i could be arsed writing up a huge post on recording a trance track from scratch for you in a previous thread, lol

sorry Ive no interest in listening to a bunch of arranged loops, I dont really care what peoples skills are in here, but rather their originality..and loops dont show any of that..Ill try to help in any other way

I agree that there's no such thing as cheating in art. It's not an academic exercise. You are either creating something worthwhile or you're not. The medium has nothing to do with it.

I don't see it as cheating, just kinda unimaginative. However, I'm sure it's good practice, so whatever :D

Yes. You are a cheat and a bad person and you deserve to have the plugs pulled out of your fruity loops and rammed up your gainstage !
Cheater !

Hopefully, by now you've guessed I am joking.

My mother taught me to not say anything if I can't say it nicely.
