An white/woodgrain SG shaped guitar with no pickups/bridge/tuning key furrules was sitting against a dumpster at the local music shop..... so i grabbed it.

So, you got a no-name body and neck which had been stripped of all parts?

do people seriously still call a guitar an "axe"?

Only when they "score" it :) Can't beat a free project though. I found an Aria classical guitar with the neck cracked. Some wood glue and four clamps later it was oke doke.

i work at a local music store...

so this guy comes in, looking to sell this shitty bass guitar. my boss says he doesnt want it so they guy says he'll leave it there, and we could take a look at it and maybe give him 5 bucks or whatever for it..

so he leaves it and weeks pass, 2 months pass. ok so were a bunch of teenage kids. this bass is so busted i wouldnt be paid to take it. we tried to tune it up and the machine head knob snapped off.. the electronics were busted, so there was absolutley no salvagable parts from this thing...

so one night, around 7, we got a lil crazy. we said 'oh shit get the crappy bass!!'

so now theres 3 guys outside in the parking lot with a broken guitar... we have a high curb between two parking lots, about 1.5 feet...

ever see someone get smashed with a guitar?? it doesnt break so easy.

the first guy takes it, swings it over his head and smashes it against the corner of the curb... *it doesnt break*! another swing, nadda, another swing, not even a crack.

next guy, stronger kid i guess, over the head, comes crashing down, guitar bursts into 7 pieces!

i was just a bystander....

the guy came in 3 weeks ago looking for his guitar. i said to come back on wednsday. thats when they work...

they told him we lost it when packing stuff for our opening of our 2nd store... he came back every week since to see if we found it. he didnt come in this week yet!

anyway, it was fun.

OFF TOPIC! GIDGE IS GONNA HAVE MY HEAD!!

If it were 1988, it would have been an "axxxe", so give him a break :)

Great score on the free "axe" Hehe. To the young man who destroyed anothers property, even though in your opinion the "axe" was a POS, you committed a crime punishable in my state by up to a year in jail. At 16 you would be a fine bitch for some other twisted individual. You should be morataly ashamed of your reprehensible behavior. If you want to break a guitar, break your own. I did, once accidently, once on purpose. The funny part is that the accident was easy, the intentional took a few good whacks. Back to my original point, as an employee of the store you were plced in a position of trust; that is a trustee in essence, as such you are to treat another's property greater than your own. For that you get this. PS even if it had been a year seince you saw the guy your duty remained. You should have posted a notice at the store and in the local paper stating that you would sell or otherwise dispose of the POS at the end of thirty days. Then you could have destroyed it as you saw fit. Did it occur to you to try and mod/repair then sell? You and your ilk are a blight. To all others who visit here I apologize for the rant.

No kidding. I tried to destroy a Scorpion I had at like 17. It was like chopping wood. An acoustic is far more fulfilling, never did it, but saw a friend snap and do it to a classical guitar. I nearly peed. At least he gave me the faux leather gig bag.

i hate it when someone does damage to a guitar

that wood took a long time to grow and then it did take some skill to build it....

this is no longer funny now that we are short of decent wood for guitar building.

Alright, so I'm not the only one who would rather keep a POS guitar/bass than smash it.

that's awesome you scored a freebie...i've always wanted to get an empty shell of a guitar that i can do whatever i want to with and not have the guilt of fucking up a good instrument

and this thread reminds me of when i was jamming with a friend a couple months ago....i had a shitload of fireworks, and he had a POS old acoustic guitar...anyways, we gave the guitar a couple smashes, set off a bunch of fireworks inside it, then doused it in lighter fluid and let the bitch burn

it made for some pretty sweet pictures when i was waving around a flaming guitar...and now it makes for some awesome wall decor at his house

again why do people do this?

i mean if the guitar plays at all it is not a POS anybody who has had to plant a tree and watch it grow and then also cut one down will never be much into wasting wood...

not that i am a tree hugger but... wasting stuff is just not going to make our guitars any better in the future....

Everyone gets one chance to be young and stupid, I did mine. When I smashed that scorpion, I thought it was cool at the time, but that was nearly a decade ago, a lot has changed. Now I would literally take anything at all someone gave me regardless of how badly damaged.
