thanks for the info, Mike ...
and yes ... the site has been slow today...

Yes it has hung up on me several times. But I thought it was only me they wanted off, call me paraniod but they are out to get me.And just who are they.

Hey big kahuna you can allways use a sub mixer on the drums. just how big is that set.

true, very true Darrin.
Usually, it's just me recording and playing ... so it's hard to get a good submix on drums while monitoring in headphones ... and playing. So I like to record each mic direct to a track ... and then submix later, if needed.
It's not a big big kit ... but sometimes I use 2 mics on kick and 2 on snare, though. When I record other people, I like to have at least 16 just in case ... because I have run out before with some of the bigger groups. In those cases, I submix during basic tracks ... but I don't like doing that. I like doing that stuff when I can take my time a little more.
So ... 24 simultaneous tracks is a good deal. :)

Alesis has a great quality sound, but for mixing i like the Mackie better. Had a 16 channel Alesis once, sounded great, but was made of plastic. Making it not a viable gig mixer. Do they still make them that way? We went to Mackie. Mackie is solid like the old Peveys. The only problem is they cost a bit more. I was looking at the Mackie HDR24/96 24-Track Recorder and it was a whopping $3,999.00.
