I just bought a new Dell PC that came with Windows XP Home on it. Now I like this OS much better than Win Me, which is what I struggled with for years with my older PC.

Well I left my older PC in Germany when I moved back to the US a few months ago. But I am about to go back to visit Germany and will be bringing back home with me so that I can use my soft-instruments EVB3, EVP88, EVD6, and EXS24mkII (emagic) live and in rehearsals.

But it has Win Me on it. Now what I want to know is, is it possible for me to install the Windows XP that came on my new Dell on my older PC? It is basically a licensing issue more so than a tech question. I know that my older PC (Pent III 933mHz, 514 MB-RAM) is tech'ed out enough to handle Win XP. I am just wondering, since I did not receive a full "on CD-ROM" version of XP with this new Dell (instead just some recovery disc) if it would be possible to use XP on the older Me machine.?

What do you guys have to say?

A lot of the time, those "recovery disks" only work on the computer they came with.

since you already own a copy, download a crack off kazaa or something. those system exclusive versions are really stupid. legally, you can put a copy that you own on any of the machines you own. as long as you are not a major corporation with hundreds of computers. :D
