I have these things. How do I bring them together?

Hello! First post. I'll try to keep it short. So I've been using the same setup for years now. Mbox, Pro Tools 8, Macbook pro. I record local singer/songwriters for side cash. Recently I came into possession of two things - a Mackie 8bus 32 and a Tascam DP-32sd. My basic newbie question is what is the best way to make these things work together?

I love the idea of more inputs into PT and I'd like to keep using PT as much as possible. Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I'm guessing you haven't seen any replies here because most people would wonder if any of the things you had/have were acquired illegally .... Do you have a paid-for/registered ProTools, for example? "came into possession" is a kind of shady way of describing something.
The Mackie is a 32 channel recording console (to use it to its fullest you'd need 32 channels of A-D converters), the Tascam is an 8-input stand-alone recorder, not sure it can act like an 8-input audio interface, though.

The 8bus manual is HERE
The DP-32sd might give you some bad times trying to play with others. It is a stand alone recorder. It only has stereo output. Not likely to be extremely useful.
AFA getting the 8 bus outs to a recording (how I would personally use the board), Just port it to any 8 in interface (Tascam, PreSonus, etc)
Patching into the inserts on the 8 bus will require some more horsepower (something along the lines of an RME Madiface, Antelope MP32 or Focusrite RedNet). You'll use the preamps on the console and run the inserts into the channels on the interface. Your software and drivers will do the rest of the connections.
Is there a reason you NEED 32 channels? Are you recording individually miked orchestral music? That's a LOT of channels for digital studio work and really overkill for HomeRecording...but, nevertheless, I hope this helps.
Happy Recording! :D

Sell the Mackie and the Tascam and buy a better computer and interface.

Haha that didn't cross my mind. I guess I should clarify. Yes, PT is paid for and registered. The Mackie and Tascam were both Christmas gifts from family (The mackie is from the step-grandfather who got me into audio).

Thanks - that is helpful. I don't necessarily need 32 channels, but this was given to me as a gift and so far it's just been sitting in my studio looking cool. I'd like to use it if I ever decide to record a full band live instead of assembly line style.

I'm considering it. Selling all of these things that don't work well together and buying a nice new setup that meets my needs better sounds like a good idea to me. We'll see.

If the people who gave the gifts really love you, they'll understand you selling them for something else...we hope :)
