i can get the perfect guitar sound....well it's what comes out of the amp. i use a sm57 close (3") then an ambient/room mic a meter back (MXL992). I'm really happy with the results BUT i need two tracks for every part and its annoying. you have to do everything twice. im using cubase sx2. can i mix the two mono tracks into 1 mono track without importing and exporting? how does everyone else overcome this problem. on any one song i end up having 20 guitar tracks. And then i have to make the same adjustmant to every track. Any ideas on how to fix this? i can pair the channels and copy and paste the mixer settings but it's still wasting time. help! it's driving me mad!

Are you talking about DOUBLING (playing the parts twice) or the fact that you have two mics, each producing a track?

Overdubbing guitar is a fact of life unless you want to have a weak sound. It's what seperates the men from the boys, the ability to overdub guitar quickly and tightly.

At first it is weird, but then you get used to it.

you could always use group channels as well. just run the two mono tracks from your two mics into a single group channel and put effects or whatever you intend to do to them. atleast it would be easier to manage, you might end up with like 4 tracks as opposed to 20.

yeh im reording using 2 mics not each track sepratly. thanks nik6teen i'll give that a go. save me only having to to everything once. thanks for your help. any other ideas though - just in case?

I find this helps...

READ THIS AND LEARN.

I can't stress this enough: READ THIS.

It all began as a simple and innocuous question...

And then Slipperman got involved.

Little did anyone realize that this would gradually turn into the educational epic bloodbath of the decade.

If you still can't record monster guitars after this, then nobody can help you.
