1 $25 radioshack mic,a fostex 4-track tape recorder and a guitar. all in a mabye 6' by 6' room. and in two years i have gone from that to 7 pro mics(2 shure prolouge 16ls,1 nady scm 900, some v-tech mic, sm57 and a beta 52.) a fostex digital 16-track hard disk recorder,dw/parcific 5-peice drum set all in a 14' by 12'

Wish I had all that at 13 !!!
Starting at that age with that gear is a major advantage over most teens. Looks like you got a good head start.

Power to ya !!! Sounds like you're off on the right trail. To bad more young people don't have the brains or desire to br creative.
Any positive use of a persons time is a great thing, and I applaude you.
Good luck in your endevores ! Feel free to ask about anything her, but I'd stay away from the Dragon Cave if I were you.

bubinski......

don't use the word "nady" and "pro" in the same sentence.

Hot stuff man, congrats. I'm jealous ;)

Age is no barrier here..... hell, we even talk to an old fossil called Harvey :D

happy tracking

Mark

thanks guys!! the truth will set you free!!!!

HAY FENIX!!!!!

YOU JUST USED NADY AND PRO IN THE SAME LINE

HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!

AND I LOVE MY "NADY" "PRO" MIC!

MABYE YOU JUST DON'T LIKE THE SOUND THE I LIKE?

Zeke,

The main problem with Nady mics, is their (lack of) quality control. If you got a good one, great! Just don't except your next Nady mic to be as good, or even usable. I bought one Nady mic, and still regret it.
The Marshall Electronics mics are just as inexpensive, and are a whole lot better. I bought my MXL-1006 for 79$ at Sam Ash, which is what the SCM-900 costs. For that price, you can also get a MXL-603, which is supposedly a wonderfull overhead mic. Check them out next time you're mic shopping.

Good for you Zeke!!

I wish I could have gotten started in recording a little earlier. I'm 28 and have been in a band for about 13 years, and just within the last month bit the bullet and bought a Fostex VF160 hard disk recorder. I am just beginning my long journey into home recording. There is soooo much to learn!

With all of this great stuff getting within a reasonable cost to us consumers, and the vast amount of knowlege on the internet, I think we'lll be seeing lots more independents making incredible recordings. It's a very exciting time.

Pros are starting younger and younger. We're seeing it everywhere. Web design, sports .... Ever feel like you're just in front of the curve?!?! Oh well .....

And how about these forums? Arent they great?!?! I am so addicted now!

damn dude, i'm jealous too! i was still playin snare in drum corps at that time, didn;t even have a set.
i gotta ask, you got any of your recorded music available to listen to? i'm anxious to hear how you've fared so far (scared is more like it, lol).

Zeke -

Why dont you sign up on MP3.com? They will host as many songs as you like - PLUS you can group them together and make a cd to sell. It's all free. The only thing you have to do is make one song freely down-loadable. All the others you can be set to "stream only". You keep all the rights to everything.

just an idea.

check out my band at http://www.mp3.com/felicitous to see what you can do.

well,

i just found away to post my songs on the internet. i will have
some songs posted here as they are recorded!

Dang, I think when I was 13 I was listening to Nirvana and eyeballing an ulgy little no name $75 electric guitar at a local music store which I would later buy.

When I was thirteen I played with matches.....

And I had no idea how to properly use the comma....

Way to go!!!

When I was 13 I thought a parradiddle was a sexually perverted act that involved urinating on people in wheelchairs

When I was 13 all I had was a jar of vasaline and a pair of my sisters panties.
