what im doing here is staring fresh so i need recomendations on what gear i need (i.e.processors,compressors,la la la...)
if you do this that little voice in my head will stop asking me for beer...
thanks guys

Not at all, reco. But sometimes nobody thinks they have a good answer or are actually enjoying the Labor Day holiday, or something.

Anyway, why should effects/compressors for a 4-track or 8-track analog machine be any different than for a computer or anything else?

i have no idea of what type of recording you would have in mind . but if i were to ever seriously attempt to track something on a four track cassette, i'd have blue max compressor, and a joe meek vc3...it is not advisable to go out of your way to use effects with such a limited recording format. i think it is possible to get four great tracks on a cassette, but i would transfer the tracks to another form, adat if not wav.file......and yes i was stupid enought to buy a four track with only a stereo out...

this was ment to be kind of an experiment to see what you would recomend to say a beginer
but never mind.

why the 'nevermind'...i would recommend the blue max from presonus to a beginner because it has presets on it for various instruments and vocals...it costs around $200, the joe meek may be a little beyond beginner though it is a cool mic preamp with compression...i'm sure a beginner could make good mixes on a four track..but a beginner might also come up with four tracks that are worth producing. that's why i mentioned that a beginner should keep in mind the possibility of transfer four tracks on a cassette to a digital environment...but maybe, you mean you are now totally uninterested in this topic, in which case, please disregard this message. ;)
