hi, so im just your average teenager making music. i've been told i 'have a gift' and have decided to start trying to record some tracks somewhat decently myself. it's just me and my acoustic guitar, and i was looking up reviews and such and have heard that a shure Sm57 mic with X2U XLR-to-USB Signal Adapter is pretty much great for recording both acousitc guitar and vocals. i was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on this mic :) also, would i need anymore cables to connect this to my laptop, or is the usb converter and mic all i'll need to get it onto my computer? and one last question, haha...what is a simple but good home recording software i can download onto my laptop that will be able to put my guitaring and vocals together and into an mp3? sorry if this no sence, but im new to this and need to learn somehow :)

also, here is a link of my youtube channel, check it out if you have the time :)

Hey:
Welcome Aboard!
Just to get a basic understanding of what it is you want to do and also to show you your options, follow this link. http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm
Take your time and read this stuff.
By the end of it, you should have a good plan of action.
You'll actual want an Audio Interface if you want to record on the computer and expect to spend at least $200 for one that you won't outgrow in 6 months. :)

Maybe check out Craigslist for an audio interface. I see them pretty cheap. Most come with software or Reaper is recommended a lot.

well i would start off by purchasing a presonus audiobox this will allow u to hook a mic up as well as an instrument mic so if u want to record both at the same time or u can record them seperate. this is a usb interface so this will allow u to get it onto the computer. it comes with studio one artist with it which is about $250 software. u can get both of these together for $150 and this will allow u to record and put it onto mp3.
hope that helps

Welcome! :)

What's your budget?

Also, have you considered recording the live performance in one shot as opposed to tracking+mixing? It might go well with your acoustic style.

I'm not a fan of the room in which you recorded "Near to You"...

Good luck!

i was looking up reviews and such and have heard that a shure Sm57 mic with X2U XLR-to-USB Signal Adapter is pretty much great for recording both acousitc guitar and vocals.

Really? Where have you seen this? The Shure website perhaps?

Your question has been asked before, strangely enough. I suggest you take your gifted self off and do a bit of searching around the forums for answers. Seek and ye shall find.

I don't think you'll come back with SM57 and X2u as the way to go necessarily...

Check out Reaper it's a free down load as a recording software.

The 57 would be ok if that is all you can afford if not I would rethink that and have a separate mic for your guitar and vocals ...somewhere along the lines of a MXL V67g for your vocals and a Shure KSM 27 for guitar.---You don't have to record them both at the same time by the way.

Then your A/D converter with micpres, that can provide phantom power to your LDC microphones.

This is always best if your on a budget. You can as well look on ebay but I always find that the biding frenzies always drive the price to high for any get deals.
It's always cool to find a treasure at a great used price. It gives you that glowing feeling like when you purchase a new item but at half the cost.
